Car at auction 6/26

1961 Jaguar Mk II

Estimate NZ$35,000 - NZ$40,000

Webb's - Collectors' Cars, Auckland, New Zealand, 7 June, 2026

Lot 25

1961 Jaguar MK 2

Engine: KG43488

Chassis: 152288DN

The Jaguar Mk2 remains one of the marque’s most celebrated sporting saloons, combining compact proportions with genuine performance and enduring design appeal. In 3.4-litre form, it offers an ideal balance of pace and usability, particularly when paired with the desirable 4-speed manual gearbox and overdrive.

This example was sold new in New Zealand and has had just three owners from new. It records a genuine 77,636mi, with the current family ownership spanning 36 years, being that of a distinguished New Zealand artist. Acquired in 1989 and retained as part of a private indoor collection, it has seen limited use since, covering less than 2,000mi during this period.

The car underwent a comprehensive but sympathetic refurbishment in the early 1990s, with an emphasis on retaining originality while returning it to a high standard throughout. It now presents as a remarkably complete and unmodified example, retaining its original number plates, factory handbook, workshop manual, warranty card, original radio and Jaguar toolkit—an increasingly rare level of completeness.

Condition is consistent across the car, with paintwork, chrome and brightwork, leather interior, carpets and walnut veneers all presenting well. Mechanically, the 3.4-litre twin-carburettor engine is described as strong and responsive, complemented by the manual overdrive transmission which enhances drivability.

Recent servicing and mechanical work has been carried out by a recognised Jaguar specialist, with supporting invoices available. The car is fitted with modern radial tyres for useability.

The vehicle will be offered with current WOF and registration.

EST $35,000—$40,000

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
