Manufactured on 30th May 1956, this remarkably preserved example was originally finished in British Racing Green with Suede Green upholstery, as confirmed by its accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate. Equipped from new with manual transmission and overdrive, it was dispatched on 21st June 1956 to Richard A. Bellamy of Grimsby. Reportedly owned initially by a doctor, the Jaguar saw relatively modest use during its early years before being acquired from a Finchley motor dealer in 1970. Its subsequent custodian retained the car for approximately 48 years, during which it was largely dry stored. Historic correspondence accompanying the vehicle supports this remarkable period of ownership.
Passing into the hands of a respected Jaguar bodywork specialist and E-Type racer in 2018, the car was subsequently acquired by its present owner from the former’s executors in 2021. Displaying just 39,960 miles at time of viewing, the Jaguar retains numerous features consistent with careful preservation and limited use. The notably original interior includes well-preserved pedal rubbers, sun visors, headlining and Hardura boot lining. Period accessories include the original radio with separate valve amplifier, manually operated aerial, factory toolkit, jack and wheel wrench. The transmission is described as smooth and quiet.
Further enhancing its appeal, the car has featured in Classic Jaguar and Jaguar World magazines and has attended classic motoring events promoting Castrol Classic Oils. Accompanied by its Heritage Certificate, historical correspondence and MOT documentation, this highly original Mk1 represents an appealing opportunity to acquire an exceptionally well-preserved example of Jaguar’s pioneering sporting saloon.
