MkII restoration project
Repatriated from South Africa some years ago
Finished in British Racing Green, this 1962 Jaguar MkII 3.8 manual with overdrive is offered for sale as a restoration project. The car was imported to the UK from South Africa when its previous owner relocated back to the UK some years ago. Since it was last sold, the car has remained untouched in storage and now comes to auction due to a change of plans.
We are told, the MkII was originally built on 29th August 1960 as a '3.4-litre' manual and despatched to South Africa in CKD form on 12th September 1960. We are informed that subsequent documentation identifies it today as a 3.8-litre manual on the V5C.
We believe the car is equipped with the 4‑speed Moss gearbox with overdrive and a limited‑slip differential. It also appears to retain early features associated with 1960 production, including the smooth black centre dash, pendant throttle pedal, and pressed front wishbones.
We understand the engine is free, and it turns. The oil is very clean, however, it has no carbs fitted on it. As it stands it is not running. Much of the floor and chassis appear to be in very good condition, as do the boot floor and wheel well; however, the front nearside crossmember and crow’s foot show corrosion. The interior has been largely removed, though all the loose items that we have will be supplied with the car.
Requiring a comprehensive restoration project, yet it presents as a strong and solid basis for returning a desirable 3.8 MkII to the road. The car is offered with a current V5C, however, there is no other paperwork present with the car.
