Circa 22,000 miles covered since its Vicarage conversion and current ownership for two decades
According to its accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, chassis 207935DN was completed on March 6th 1962. A 3.8 litre, manual / overdrive model, it was dispatched the following month to Rossleigh of Dundee. Bought by local coal merchants R. Taylor & Sons and initially road registered as ‘NTS 816’, the Jaguar underwent the Vicarage treatment some twenty-six years later. Commissioned by the Finance Director of the famous Boase, Massimi and Pollitt advertising agency, the MKII was uprated with a tuned 3.8 litre XK DOHC engine, Getrag five-speed manual gearbox, hydraulic power steering, alternator, oil cooler, stainless steel exhaust, negative earth electrics, heated rear windscreen, electric tilt / slide sunroof, XJ6-type limited slip differential, central locking, alarm, Kenlowe fan, MWS 72-spoke wire wheels and Vicarage’s ‘semi-independent’ coil-sprung rear suspension. Finished in the classic combination of British Racing Green with Cream leather upholstery and matching carpets, ‘NTS 816’ also gained a wood-rimmed steering wheel and later Daimler Vanden Plas-style front seats (complete with inertia reel seatbelts).
Purchased by Michael Conway MBE (whose son is a twice Le Mans 24 hours winner) in 1992, old MOT certificates on file indicate that he barely drove the Jaguar before the vendor became its third, post-Vicarage custodian twenty years ago at an indicated 14,000 miles. A retired engineer, the seller has added less than 8,000 miles to the odometer. Nonetheless, his stewardship has seen ‘NTS 816’ benefit from a re-cored radiator / fresh hoses (2006); replacement front disc brakes (2007); five new Vredstein tyres, 123 Electronic ignition / fresh HT leads, renewed diff pinion and clutch master and slave seals (2013); reconditioned power steering rack (2014), updated radio (2015); rejuvenated carburettors (2016); and replacement air-conditioning hoses (2017). Repainted by Bristol Classic Car Restoration (BCCR Ltd) in 2017 too after a tight manoeuvre involving a wall, the MK2 has been little used of late. Running and driving and showing good oil pressure, ‘NTS 816’ is nevertheless undergoing some light recommissioning and is expected to possess a fresh MOT certificate by the time of sale.
Deemed by the vendor to be in ‘very good overall’ condition with regards to its engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork, this well-specified Vicarage Jaguar is offered for sale with V5C Registration Document, JDHT Certificate, copy Vicarage sales invoice, detailed schedule of works (2006-2015), numerous old MOT certificates and assorted bills etc. Needless to say, having a MKII professionally restored and upgraded to the same standard would cost multiples of the guide price today.
