Car at auction 12/25

online.doningtonauctions.com.au/m/lot-details/index/catalog/262/lot/66972

Auction description:

1968 Jaguar 240 Saloon

Desirable manual version of Jaguar’s final Mark II variant

From a private NSW Jaguar collection

Offered with No Reserve

Chassis no. 1J1501 (indistinct)

Engine no. 7J17158

Previously owned by George Hughes of Port Broughton, South Australia, this stylish 1968 Jaguar 240 equipped with manual transmission joined the Late Owner’s collection in September 2020. Apart from an old SA registration paper and some receipts there’s not much paperwork available with the car. Recent work has seen the exhaust replaced, along with a new speedo cable and petrol cap.

Overall the 240 presents well, the white duco evidently an older repaint with plenty of gloss left and very few blemishes, while the body itself looks straight and there’s no obvious corrosion to be found. The panel fit is generally very good while the red Ambla upholstery may be original and has very little wear showing, with no splits or tears. The carpets and headliner are all in good condition and a Clarion radio/tape deck the only noted non original item. Unfortunately the car wasn’t running at the time of cataloguing due to a flat battery but we are advised it has been recently started. UPDATE: the Jaguar is now in running condition, as per the video below.

Showing 36,768 miles on the clock at the time of cataloguing, the Jaguar will be sold unregistered and with No Reserve. Please note the car is located in Berridale, NSW and must be collected on site by arrangement with Donington Auctions.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
