Car was at auction in '07

Auction description:
Comprehensively restored in the early 1990s, this very appealing Jaguar Mark 2 has always been looked after and kept garaged by the current owners, believed to be the third. The car is in good condition throughout and drives particularly well, the automatic transmission operating smoothly and the XK engine in good health. The white paintwork is unmarked and looks magnificent while the red upholstery is similarly excellent, with only minor work needed to the wood fittings to bring the car up to show standards. With just over 36,000 miles on the clock, the Jaguar is currently registered in South Australia with the original plates '19331' (unregistered in New South Wales) and comes with a history file including photos, receipts and other relevant paperwork.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
