Car was at auction in '07
www.cheffins.co.uk/catalogues/vintage/carsmotorcycles/2007/VINT1007-bike/display ...

Auction description:
1963 JAGUAR Mk2 3.8litre
Reg. No. KGJ 559A
Chassis No. 209906
Engine No.LC 5182-8
The Carmen Red Mk2 was delivered new to Australia on the 8th January 1963 where it spent its life in the car friendly dry conditions, the Millenium year saw the original 3.8 litre engine rebuilt and a Jaguar all synchro-mesh manual overdrive gearbox fitted. Repatriated to the UK and re-registered on the 1st July 2002, a back to metal re-spray was carried out in 2003 and, the vendor states, revealed an apparently rust free body. Sitting on colour coded steel wheels, just 36,203 miles are recorded, a period Moto-Lita accessory steering wheel is fitted as are seat belts front and rear. The interior is very tidy indeed and the drivers seat has been recovered in Connolly beige hide and awaits re-colouring to match the original covers. Shut lines all appear to be neat and the overall chrome and paint finish is extremely handsome, this, the most desirable configuration of the Mk2 is a true drive away prospect and the vendor states that a full MOT will be supplied at the time of sale, even after 44 years this is a car with real presence and guaranteed to turn heads. Supplied with V5C documentation.

Car returned to auction 12/12

Auction description:
Lot Number: 39
1963 Jaguar MK II 3.8 Litre
Not Sold
Reg Number: KGJ559A
Chassis Number: 209906
Engine Number: LC5182-8
Cc: 3781
Body Colour: Red
Trim Colour: Cream
MOT ExpiryDate: Aug 2013

Originally an automatic example, this right-hand drive 3.8 MKII is these days equipped with the desirable manual/overdrive transmission. Manufactured in January 1963, it was an Australian export model distributed new by Bryson of Sydney to J.D. and A.H. Evans of Long Jutty. It is understood to have been restored circa 12 years ago and repatriated a couple of years later. `KGJ 559A' has Red bodywork teamed with Cream leather upholstery and is considered by the vendor to have "good" bodywork, paintwork, interior trim and transmission and a "very good" XK engine. The Jaguar has apparently been used sparingly in recent years and is now offered complete with history file, Heritage Certificate and MOT valid until August 2013.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
