This 1961 Jaguar Mark II is finished in silver over maroon leather and powered by a 3.8-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes 15” wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, dual SU carburetors, driving lamps, and seatback tray tables. The car was acquired by the seller in 2017, and subsequent service included rebuilding the carburetors, refurbishing the ignition and suspension, and replacing the clutch cylinders, fuel tank, thermostatic switch, and battery. The crankcase vent was cleaned in preparation for the sale. This Mk II is now offered with partial service records, a factory tool kit, owner’s and shop manuals, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Maine title in the seller’s name.
The car was finished in Opalescent Gunmetal Grey from the factory and repainted silver under previous ownership. Features include a fender-mounted mirror, chrome wraparound bumpers with overriders, driving lamps, a Jaguar hood leaper, and quarter vent windows that rotate up front and pop out at the rear.
Chrome 15″ wire wheels secured by Jaguar-branded two-eared spinners are mounted with Avon Radial Steel tires. Suspension work since 2020 included replacing the GAZ front shocks and Spax rear shocks, as well as the track bars, control arms, and sway bar bushings. Braking is provided by four-wheel Dunlop 12″ discs for which the lines were replaced in September 2019.
The cabin was refreshed in 2004 and features maroon leather seating surfaces with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and replacement carpeting. Additional appointments include front bucket seats with lap belts, joined by a locking glovebox, seatback tray tables, and a Motorola AM radio. The headliner is detaching at the rear and has stains as well as holes.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a wood-trimmed dashboard housing Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level, along with a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 6k miles, approximately 5k of which were driven by the seller. True mileage is unknown.
The 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six is equipped with a pair of SU HD6 downdraft carburetors that were rebuilt in September 2017. Additional work performed under current ownership included replacing the fuel tank, thermostatic switch, starter solenoid, battery, ignition coil, and spark plugs, as well as the distributor rotor, points, and condenser. Service in preparation for the sale included cleaning the crankcase vent, setting the spark plug gaps, and performing a compression test.
The cylinder head stamping LB1852-8 matches the engine number recorded on the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and stamped on the chassis plate.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission featuring overdrive. The clutch primary and secondary cylinders, in addition to the hose and hard line, were replaced in September 2019. The differential oil was changed at the same time.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate lists serial numbers and factory colors, a manufacture date of February 13th, 1961, and distribution through Jaguar Cars of New York.
