1983 Jaguar C Type by Proteus
Lot 125A
Registration Number: 143 CGB
Chassis Number: 153462DN
Estimate:
£26,000- £30,000
Proteus is one of the few firms making reproductions of classic cars to have established an international reputation for quality; indeed, several books on modern sports cars list Proteus as a maker in its own right. Only 54 original Jaguar C Types were made and it is worth noting that the first three World Champions, Giuseppe Farina, Alberto Ascari and Juan-Manuel Fangio, all bought them as road cars. It is not hard to understand why: the body was aerodynamic at a time when most of the opposition was streamlined, it had a spaceframe when such chassis were rare and the twin overhead camshaft. Six cylinder XK engine was the most sophisticated production unit in the world. Then there was also the matter of wins at Le Mans, in the Tourist Trophy and the Reims 12 Hours to name a few. The qualities which made the C Type so attractive to three of the greatest drivers in history still hold true today.
In fact, the use of later Jaguar components makes a Proteus version a more practical proposition than an original. The attention to detail in producing these cars is remarkable. It is important to note that they are very much hand-built using the same skill needed to produce the original cars; such skilled craftsmanship in this modern age is a dying art. Built in 1983, this Proteus was used until it was laid up in the early 90’s. Re-commissioned in 2009 by Lychnic Restorations, the car is finished in British Racing Green and rides on wire wheels. This car has benefited from an engine rebuild in 2009 with suspension, brakes, carburettors and gearbox all receiving substantial attention at the same time.
143 CGB represents a fantastic opportunity to experience the magic a Jaguar C Type at a fraction of the price of the real thing. Supplied with UK V5 and MoT’d until July 2011 , this lusty evocation will never fail to impress.

Proteus Jaguar C-Type Replica
Registration no. 143 CGB
Chassis no. 153462DN
Engine no. ZB2884
Estimate: £28,000 - 35,000
Built in the 1980s, this Proteus C-Type replica was used until the early 1990s before being laid up. Extensively re-commissioned in 2009 by Lychnic Restorations, the car benefits from an engine rebuild carried out that same year, with the suspension, brakes, carburettors and gearbox all receiving attention at the same time. Lychnic's detailed list of works carried out is available for inspection. Finished in chrome wrap over British Racing Green and equipped with wire wheels, '143 CGB' represents an exciting opportunity to experience the delights of C-Type ownership at a fraction of the price of the genuine article.
