Seller's description:
1958 Jaguar 3.4 Litre Saloon Mark I
This particular example is a 1958 Jaguar 3.4 Litre Saloon, a desirable right-hand drive UK-supplied car built on 4 September 1958 and dispatched on 12 September 1958 to its supplying distributor S.H. Newsome of Coventry. The original registration WRW 382 is recorded along with the first owner W.J. Belgrove.

According to the Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Certificate, the car retains its original factory specification including: Chassis number: S 974607 DN, Engine number: KF 1226-8, Body number: E 010138, Gearbox: GBN 20072 JS, Transmission: Manual with overdrive.

The car was originally finished in Cornish Grey with Dark Blue interior trim, a wonderfully elegant and period-correct colour combination that perfectly suits the graceful lines of the Mark I. The factory records also confirm the car was equipped with disc brakes, a significant technological advancement at the time and a hallmark of Jaguar’s engineering leadership in the 1950’s.

Between 2018 and 2021, the Jaguar underwent a comprehensive restoration, returning the car to an exceptionally high standard throughout. The restoration addressed the body, paintwork, mechanical systems and interior, resulting in a car that presents beautifully while retaining its original character.

Since completion of the restoration, the car has seen very little use, ensuring that its condition remains fresh and highly impressive.

This Jaguar is accompanied by an extensive history file, which greatly enhances its collectability and provenance. Included with the car are: Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Certificate, extensive file of restoration and maintenance invoices, original log book, original factory sales brochure, and historical paperwork documenting the car’s life.

A beautifully restored and highly attractive example of the Jaguar 3.4 Litre Mark I, finished in its elegant original colour scheme and accompanied by outstanding documentation. With its recent restoration, matching numbers specification, and strong provenance including its Jaguar Heritage Certificate, this is a superb opportunity to acquire a significant and highly usable 1950’s Jaguar sporting saloon.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
