Seller Dealer
Auction Type No reserve
This 1962 Jaguar Mark II 3.8, for sale at no reserve, is described by the selling dealer as “a barn find, coming out of dry storage for 36 years, made to run, but not a driver.” He suggests the car as a solid restoration project, noting that this example is a rare U.S.-spec version with left-hand drive, a manual transmission, and air conditioning. The car needs comprehensive restoration.
POWERTRAIN
The Jaguar XK 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six, with 8.0:1 compression and two SU HD6 carburetors, was rated at 210 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 240 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm when new. This example is equipped with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The engine is original according to the seller and it starts. The transmission is also said to shift. Small leaks are reported below the car.
EXTERIOR
The Old English White exterior appears to show all panels as relatively solid and with even panel fits. The seller identifies “some very little rust, body blemishes, and the need to be restored.” All bright trim appears to be complete, with front end damage seen in the photos and the need for all trim to be restored. All glass is in “good shape” according to the seller, with “no leaks.” The lights are described as “mostly” working.
INTERIOR
The cream leather interior also similarly show the need for comprehensive restoration of all leather, wood, carpet, and fabric. Interior trim appears to be complete in the photos. The dashboard also presents as complete, with damage to the wood finish. All gauges and switches also appear as complete, although the selling dealer describes the functionality of the gauges as “unknown.” Neither the heat nor air conditioning are said to be working.
CHASSIS
The undercarriage show an expected amount of rust and grime, but no accident damage or obvious modifications. The seller remarks that the bushings, shocks, and brakes all need to be restored, and it can be implied that the steering and suspension will require the same level of service. The 15-inch knock-off wire wheels require restoration, and the tires will need to be replaced.
DOCUMENTATION
The selling dealer states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean and open Oklahoma title for the proper transfer of ownership. This 1962 Jaguar Mark II 3.8, for sale at no reserve, is one of 83,701 built between 1959 and 1967 according to the Jaguar Daimler Trust, with the 3.8 engine accounting for the majority. Many examples have fallen to age. This example, described by the seller as “original, complete, and virtually rust free with all solid panels” may be a better candidate for restoration than many others, or as a donor car for restoration. Other Mark IIs have also provided the mechanical basis for construction of Jaguar C-type recreations.
