This 1968 Jaguar 420 is a left-hand-drive saloon that was sold new in England, and years later it was modified with the installation of a Chevrolet-sourced 305ci V8, which is paired with an automatic transmission. Finished in red over tan upholstery, the car is equipped with wire-style wheel covers, four-wheel disc brakes, an Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold, finned valve covers, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, burl wood interior trim, and a Kenwood stereo. The seller acquired the car in late 2023, and subsequent service is said to have involved replacement of a fuel pump, suspension bushings, and taillight bulbs. This 420 is now offered with a BMIHT certificate, a service handbook, and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s name.
The car was finished from the factory in Willow Green and was repainted in red under prior ownership. Brightwork includes the fluted grille, “leaper” hood ornament, quad headlamp bezels, dual side mirrors, window surrounds, door trim, dual exhaust outlets, and wraparound bumpers with overriders. The seller replaced the taillight bulbs.
Steel 15″ wheels with wire-style covers are wrapped in Nexen N’Priz tires. A spare steel wheel and older tire are stored beneath an access door in the trunk floor. The four-wheel disc brakes feature inboard rear rotors. The suspension bushings from the center link to the pitman arm and also from the center link to the drag link were replaced under current ownership, according to the seller.
The cabin features seats trimmed in tan upholstery. Appointments include black carpeting, individual front seats, folding front and rear center armrests, door-panel storage pockets, a heater, cupholders, and a Kenwood stereo.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts a Smiths 140-mph speedometer, a 5,500-rpm tachometer, and centrally mounted auxiliary readouts for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. An aftermarket tachometer is positioned to the right of the steering wheel. The five-digit odometer shows 69k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership; true mileage is unknown.
The 305ci Chevrolet V8 was installed decades ago under previous ownership, according to the seller. The engine is augmented by an Edelbrock carburetor, an Edelbrock intake manifold, and finned valve covers. The passenger-side fuel pump was replaced and the oil was changed under current ownership.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through an automatic transmission. Corrosion is visible on underbody components.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate lists factory colors and options as well as initial distribution by Henlys for Home Delivery on June 18, 1968.
