This 1967 Jaguar 420 was refurbished under current ownership during a process that was completed around 2022 and involved a conversion to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive as well as a “Stage One” rebuild of the 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six that was conducted by Classic Jaguar of Austin, Texas. Finished in green over green leather upholstery, the car is equipped with wire-spoke 15″ wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, dual SU carburetors, stainless-steel exhaust, burl wood interior trim, a push-button AM/FM radio, and seatbelts. This left-hand-drive 420 was acquired by the current owner in 2013 and is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with service records, manufacturer’s literature, a spare Lucas exterior mirror, a tool kit, and Connecticut registration.
The car was stripped to bare metal, coated in two-stage epoxy primer, and refinished in green using Glasurit paint during the aforementioned refurbishment. Brightwork includes the fluted grille, “leaper” hood ornament, quad headlamp bezels, driver-side mirror, window surrounds, door trim, dual exhaust outlets, and wraparound bumpers with overriders. The driver door, grille, and trunk-mounted reverse light were replaced during the refurbishment.
Chrome-finished wire-spoke 15″ wheels feature two-eared knockoffs and are mounted with 205/70 Cooper CS5 Grand Touring tires bearing 2022 manufacturing date codes. A spare wire wheel and older tire are stored beneath an access door in the trunk floor. Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering from another Jaguar product was adapted during the refurbishment, and the independent suspension as well as the four-wheel disc brakes were overhauled. The brake fluid was changed in July 2024.
The interior was reupholstered in green leather with matching door panels, part of an interior kit sourced from Suffolk & Turley in the United Kingdom. The cabin’s burl wood trim was refurbished by Madera Concepts of Goleta, California, and the dashboard was redone by Just Dashes of Van Nuys, California. Appointments include green carpeting, individual front seats, folding front and rear center armrests, door-panel storage pockets, a heater, a clock, and a push-button AM/FM radio along with three-point front seatbelts and rear lap belts.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a half horn ring and fronts a Smiths 140-mph speedometer, a 5,500-rpm tachometer, and centrally mounted auxiliary readouts for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 95k miles, approximately 1,500 of which were added under current ownership.
The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six was rebuilt to “Stage One” specifications by Classic Jaguar of Austin, Texas, in a procedure that involved fitting larger valves, a ported and polished cylinder head, and more aggressive camshafts. A wiring harness from UK Spark Auto is installed. The fuel system was replaced and features a transfer switch for the dual tanks. The oil and filter were changed most recently in July 2024.
A four-speed manual transmission said to have been sourced from another Jaguar 420 was rebuilt and installed by Quantum Mechanics of Oxford, Connecticut, during the refurbishment, and a Jaguar-rebuilt overdrive unit was also installed. The driveshaft was rebuilt, and the rear end was powdercoated and rebuilt. The car has a stainless-steel exhaust system. The oil in the gearbox and the overdrive were changed in July 2024.
Refurbishment records will accompany the vehicle along with a bound photographic record of the engine rebuild. Knock-off wheel tools and a fitted car cover are also included.
The chassis number displayed on the data plate is P1F26504BW, whereas the Connecticut registration document cites the VIN P1F26504BM, with an M in place of the trailing W.
The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being sold on its Connecticut registration certificate, which identifies the car’s registered usage as “Antique”.

8/15/2024 - Winning bid was $42,250.
Bob’s comments:
Restoration cost was hinted at well over $100,000. The engine rebuild done by CJ of Dallas Texas, runs $20,000 alone. This goes to show you that you have to be very careful buying a 420. Otherwise you could be upside down very easily.
