Lot #206800

This 1967 Jaguar 420 was acquired by the current owner in 2015, and a refurbishment that was completed in 2023 involved reupholstering the interior in green leather, overhauling the braking and fuel systems, performing a tune-up on the 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six, resealing the three-speed automatic transmission, and repairing the AM/FM/cassette radio. Finished in white, the car is also equipped with dual SU carburetors, power steering, 15″ wire-spoke wheels, wood interior trim, lap belts, and a heater. This left-hand-drive 420 is now offered in New York at no reserve by the seller on behalf of the owner with a parts catalog and New Hampshire registration.

The car is finished in Old English White, according to the seller. Exterior details include quad headlights, a Leaper hood ornament, a fender-mounted antenna, dual side mirrors, and vent windows as well as a chrome grille, door handles, window surrounds, and wraparound bumpers with overriders. The seller notes rust at the lower edges of the body plus body filler at the bottoms of the rear doors.

Chrome-finished 15″ wire-spoke wheels are mounted with Hercules Roadtour tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is provided by power-assisted discs, with inboard rotors at the rear axle. The braking system was refurbished under current ownership with work that involved replacing the master cylinders, caliper pistons and seals, rear and handbrake pads, and one rear caliper. A remote bleeder kit also was installed, and a U-joint in the steering column was replaced. The seller notes that the chrome is peeling from the wheels.

The current owner reupholstered the interior in green leather. The split front bench seat and the rear bench offer folding central armrests. Interior appointments include a Smiths analog clock, walnut veneer trim, lap belts, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, a lockable glovebox, and a heater. The radio and tape deck were repaired under current ownership. The seller notes that the air conditioning is inoperative.

The two-spoke steering wheel features a bright semi-circular horn ring. Smiths instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level set alongside a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 55k miles, approximately 300 of which were added by the selling dealer.

The 4.2-liter XK DOHC inline-six was factory equipped with two SU carburetors and was rated at 246 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque when new. Work performed under current ownership included the following:

Rebuilt carburetors

Resealed carburetor float bowls

Cleaned and sealed gas tank

Replaced dual fuel pumps

Replaced distributor cap, spark plugs, and ignition wires

Changed oil and filter

Power is routed to the rear wheels through a column-shifted Borg-Warner Model 8 three-speed automatic transmission, for which the front and rear seals were replaced during the refurbishment. Corrosion is visible on underbody components.

The vehicle is being sold on its New Hampshire registration, which serves as the ownership document in New Hampshire. The owner’s registration document expired in July 2023.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
