Ebay item 6/29/09 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-MARK-II-3-8-S-1966-JAGUAR-Mark-II-3-8-S-4-dr-Salo ...
Current bit $5,100 reserve not met, 6 bids 9 days left in auction.
Sellers description:
1966 JAGUAR Mark II 3.8 ‘S’ 4 door Saloon “GRACE….SPACE….PACE”
43,942 ACTUAL MILES!
This is the lovely & more practical of the Mark II series w/ the larger 19 cubic feet trunk & adult rear seating, more handsome styling & the bonus of the famous & roadworthy Jaguar rear IRS suspension – the Mark II 3.8 S.
This rare Mark II 3.8 S is one of many Classic British cars in the stable of a lifelong avid, enthusiast/collector/Concours organizer who maintains his collection in a temperature controlled showroom w/ battery tenders, attentive maintenance & exercised only in dry weather.
This is an original MK II “Survivor” that only required an on-frame restoration beginning in 2000 because of its very low mileage & exceptional care. It was & is solid throughout w/ straight nice fitting panels & absolutely no rust - a magnet stuck everywhere. Underneath, the floors & frame are totally solid – Look at the Pics! It has not been taken apart. New, correct gas tanks, belts, hoses, radiator, brakes. Gorgeous WWW Firestones surround Chrome Dunlop wire wheels w/ SS spokes. The smooth running, low mileage six was thoroughly gone over & the engine bay detailed. The Borg Warner Auto shifts nicely. Any items needing routine maintenance since then have always been attended to. The Original leather, headliner, carpets, panels, Complete Tool Kit, Full spare on wire wheel, Badge Bar, workshop manual & refurbished wood compliment this un-molested Jaguar. It has the most beautiful Show-Quality respray matching the original Opalescent Silver Blue perfectly; it doesn’t shine, it GLOWS! This blue is so rare & desirable that Ford searched for this color specifically & chose this very Jaguar to appear in the press releases & brochures for the 1999 New York unveiling of the new “S” Type models whose styling was derived from the Mark II. Pictures of this very MK II are on the brochures as shown. At that time the car had the steel wheels, amber lenses & the badge bar was removed for the pics to emulate a new showroom car. Fender-mounted mirrors were added later.
Original owner was Geoffrey Beene, the noted NY fashion designer whose notable clients are mentioned on the Website link; a fact that may not ruffle your trousers, but Provenance nonetheless.
Car has no mechanical issues & drives very smoothly. Although, I’m sure you’ll agree that this beautiful Jag looks like a #1 on the outside & throughout most of the interior, it is a high #3 car, mainly because it shows some honest wear as listed below & the chassis, although rock solid, has not been cleaned & shows the usual oil & grease accumulated in 43 years. If you want to take it to the next level, any restorer will tell you that the mechanics (this case cleaning underneath) are cheaper & quicker to do than dealing w/ new interior, body & paint.
Ø The exhaust pipes leading to the resonators on both sides have worn through on the bottom as seen in the pics. The owner will either have them replaced before taking delivery or a credit will be given.
Ø The rubber weather-stripping on the front edges of the doors is fairly worn as seen in the pics.
Ø Driver’s seat on inside of left bolster is worn, not really noticeable in pics.
Ø Headliner is slightly separated a couple of inches on rear left side as seen in pic.
Ø A few small cracks& a tiny bubble in paint around grill as seen in pics.
Ø Original stylish Blaupunkt radio needs a resistor.

Sellers description:
1966 3.8S Jaguar Sedan
I bought the car in Sept. of 2009, and have clear title.
The seller was the 2nd owner and a serious car collector.
He was in his late 80's and selling a 25+/- car collection with many Jaguars.
He had purchased my car in the 1980's; had it in his barn-museum and would take it to shows.
He put only a few thousand miles on the car in 30 years.
He had the car repainted (30+ coats of hand rubbed lacquer) the original color blue in the late 1980's.
The car had 42,000 miles when I purchased it.
The car is in good running condition with almost 52,000 miles.
I drive it locally--
and have had it on trips on the highway from Phila. to New England and Richmond VA.
Starts, handles, accelerates great around town and on the highway.
At 70 miles an hour on the highway, the car is smooth and stable; around 3,000rpm.
The paint job looks great from a distance, but there are cracks and flaking--a few chips up front--some scratches.
**So sooner or later it will need a paint job.**
The interior wood is all intact and 90% good--the driver side left window piece, where you'd put your left arm has been replaced and does not match.
**The right rear door wood trim is cracking.**
The dark blue/light blue piping leather is great in the back seat and good in the passenger seat.
The driver seat is intact but shows wear and has ***started to crack on the seating cushion.***
The gauges all work--**the tach has been rebuilt and the tach generator replaced--at times however the tach will not work**
--heater works--I've driven the car weekly--year round.
3 point seat belts for driver and passenger have been added (none in back seat).
The engine is original and has not had work/repairs--to my knowledge.
The car has the original Borg Warner 3 speed automatic,
which was rebuilt in 2015.
After I purchased the car, I had it assessed by a local restoration shop
who have worked on and improved the car for me over the past 6 years:
Compression in 9/2009 was:
165-175-175-170-165-160
"considered good readings"
Work performed has been:
Install a Petronix electronic ignition
convert from positive ground to negative ground
new ignition wiring
new voltage regulator
rebuild distributer
replace carb floats/needles
replace carb auto/choke
2 new electronic fuel pumps
new retro am/fm radio
new exhaust system
drop rear subframe
4 new shocks
rebuilt rear brakes
replace rear trailing arm bushings
2 new universal joints
disassemble front suspension
2 new shocks
upper and lower bushings replaced
sway bar bushings replaced
repack wheel bearings
rebuild front brakes
5 new radial tires-Vredstein
replace engine mounts
replace brake servo and
rebuild master cylinder
replace steering column bushings
rebuild power steering pumps
replace rubber seals around doors and rear window
I had the car appraised for insurance in 2010. I have it insured for $25k.
Appraiser's summary:
"A nice example, much better than average for year/make & model.
Some popular options, some current technology enhancements,
Professional quality workmanship, on a very nice driver/combo
of original and refurbished quality, great patina."
