Auction description:
Estimate £15,000 - £17,000
Registration Date 1964
Registration Number CJF 457B
Make & Model Jaguar S-Type 3.4 Automatic
Colour Dark Blue
Chassis No. P2129BW
Engine size 3,442 cc
Engine No. 7B2446/8
Documents V5C; MOT March 2017; very large history file; original handbooks and service book; toolkit
First registered in November 1964, this particular 3.4 Automatic spent its early life on the island of Jersey and has had just four owners from new, being acquired by the vendor in April 2005 with 104,100 miles on the clock. During his 11-year ownership the vendor has used the car regularly, adding some 16,000 miles to the odometer which now reads just over 120,000 miles. He has also maintained it regardless of cost, estimating that he has spent over £25,000 in running repairs and improvements with a large file of invoices documenting the extent of the work carried out.
This has included a bare metal respray in the original dark blue, refurbishment of the grey leather upholstery and interior woodwork plus a new carpet set and underfelt kit. The instruments have been refurbished (speedo, rev counter and clock), the wire wheels colour coded in dark blue and a new set of tyres recently fitted. A new Webasto roof has also been fitted and the whole car thoroughly protected with waxoil.
Mechanically the Jaguar has also been much improved, including an engine overhaul by Phoenix Engineering of Hereford; a gearbox overhaul by Bristol Transmissions; full brake and suspension overhaul including new springs, shocks, calipers, discs and brake servo; differential overhaul and an overhaul of the cooling system including the fitment of an oil cooler.
Said to drive beautifully with an MOT until March 2017, the car certainly performed well when we were treated to a lengthy test drive with excellent oil pressure and temperature, responsive gearbox and a notably quiet and comfortable ride. It comes with two sets of keys, all its original handbooks, a complete toolkit and a vast history file from new, some of it contained in a small leather suitcase which is also included in the sale along with a car cover.
More comfortable and refined than a comparable MkII, this cherished S-Type has wanted for nothing and is ready for a lucky fifth owner to enjoy right away.
