This 1967 Jaguar 420G is a right-hand-drive example that was built in September 1966, shipped to Murkett Brothers in London, England, and later imported to the US, where it is said to have remained with a single family from 1989 until it was acquired by the selling dealer in November 2023. It is finished in blue over gray vinyl upholstery and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a three-speed automatic transmission and a Powr-Lok limited-slip differential. The car is further equipped with triple SU carburetors, body-color 14″ steel wheels, power steering, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, and Lucas driving lights as well as an analog clock, wood interior trim, Smiths instrumentation, a heater, an Alpine CD stereo, and fold-down rear picnic trays. The brakes were serviced in August 2021, and the oil was changed and the tires were replaced in preparation for the sale. This Jaguar 420G is now offered by the selling dealer in Oregon with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, a tool kit, and an Illinois title.
The 420G was an evolution of the Mark X saloon, and the selling dealer reports that this example was repainted in Opalescent Silver Blue at some point under prior ownership. Exterior details include Westinghouse headlights, Lucas driving lights, polished window and bodyside trim, dual exhaust outlets, and wraparound bumpers with overriders. The selling dealer notes bubbling in the paint on the trailing edge of both right-side wheel arches.
Body-color 14″ steel wheels wear bright trim rings and hubcaps and were mounted with 205/70 Uniroyal Tiger Paw AWP II tires in preparation for the sale. A full-size spare is stowed in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering as well as an independent rear suspension system, and braking is handled by power-assisted discs at all four corners. Service performed in August 2020 included replacing the brake master cylinder, overhauling the calipers, and bleeding the brake fluid.
The bench seats were re-trimmed in gray vinyl upholstery under prior ownership and are accompanied by wood trim on the dashboard, A-pillar, door panels, window surrounds, and front seat backs. Carpeted floor mats line the footwells, and appointments include a heater and defroster, an analog clock, a locking glove compartment, fold-down rear picnic trays, an Alpine CD stereo, and an ADS amplifier mounted under the passenger front seat. Cracks on the dashboard wood trim are noted, and the selling dealer states the self-canceling feature for the turn signals is inoperative.
A two-spoke steering wheel with a broken center insert sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline, a Lucas ammeter, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 69k miles, a handful of which have been added by the selling dealer. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six features triple SU carburetors as well as finned Jaguar-branded camshaft covers. The ignition points, spark plugs, and carburetor float gaskets were replaced in May 2020, and an oil change was carried out in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a Powr-Lok limited-slip differential. The differential output shaft seal was replaced in August 2020, and the selling dealer notes rust and separation at the rear jack points.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate lists factory colors and drivetrain numbers as well as the build and dispatch dates.
The chassis plate shown above displays the car number “G1D53694BW”. The Illinois title lists the VIN as “C1D5369418W” transposing the “G” for a “C” and the “B” for “18”. An aftermarket VIN plate bearing the sequence on the title is affixed to the right-front inner fender.
