This auction offers the opportunity to acquire a right-hand drive 1966 Jaguar S-Type, imported from South Africa to the Netherlands in 1998. According to the seller, it underwent a restoration over several years, costing approximately €26,000, including an engine overhaul. This sedan, chassis number A1B56967, has two known owners, and its history can be partially traced through various invoices from 1998 to 2003. The car already has historic vehicle registration (H-Zulassung), but a current TÜV inspection is not available. A 2018 Classic Analytics valuation assessed the Jaguar S-Type at a replacement value of €47,400 and rated its condition as 2+.
Almost the entire body structure of the S-Type was identical to the Mark II, however, the front fenders were slightly modified, the roof was raised for increased headroom, and the rear window was adjusted accordingly. The bumpers were somewhat thinner, and due to the modified rear axle design, a redesigned, longer rear end was used. According to the seller, the white Jaguar sedan has been completely repainted at some point, and he can rule out any accidents during its current ownership. Furthermore, there appear to be no modifications deviating from the original condition, and the exterior generally shows only minimal signs of wear.
The seller attests to the tires being 70-90% of their original condition – these are mounted on original chrome wire wheels. He estimates the condition of the brakes at 50-70%, and is unaware of any issues with the suspension.
Red full leather and numerous burl wood trim elements in the interior of this Jaguar S-Type exude an elegant ambiance. While minor signs of wear are visible, the overall condition can be described as good. In addition to power steering, the sedan is equipped with a radio, among other features. The seller notes that the heater is currently not working and the parcel shelf should be reupholstered. For a detailed overview of the Jaguar's interior condition and features, please refer to the numerous photos available.
The odometer of this S-Type reads 77,601 miles. Several invoices from 1998-2003 are available to provide a reasonably verifiable history, but the service booklet is no longer present. According to the seller, the sedan has only been driven a few hundred kilometers in the last seven years. All instruments and gauges in the interior appear to be functioning correctly.
The S-Type's 3.8-liter inline six-cylinder engine generates 224 hp, with power delivered to the rear axle via a 5-speed manual transmission. The last service was performed in 2020, but the seller mentions that the car's fluids should be changed.
According to the seller, the Jaguar's underbody is in preserved and completely cavity-sealed condition. The seller notes that some age-related surface rust cannot be ruled out. Due to the S-Type's independent rear suspension design, this sedan has a distinct character compared to the Mark II. For those seeking the quintessential British driving experience (including right-hand drive) with plenty of charm and luxurious features, this 1966 Jaguar S-Type is an excellent choice.
