Ebay item 2/17/08 cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-Mark-9-saloon-Jaguar-Mark-9-CA-car-Good-driver-kn ...
Current bid $5,100 reserve not met, 7 bids, 5 days left in auction.
Sellers description:
In need of some tinkering, this beautiful sedan turns heads wherever it goes. Although it would not win any car shows is in good drivable condition and has been used at least weekly for the last 10 years. This a good example of a California car showing a minimal amount of rust. Recent work includes, new front brakes and booster, fuel pump and lubrication service. The engine and trans have also been rebuilt within 8,000 miles. This car has been in current owners possession since 1998 and is currently registered in CA until May of this year.
Always garaged it has been well maintained and cared for by its enthusiastic owner. It is in generally good mechanical condition and sits on a good set of tyres. The automatic choke works well and it starts easily from cold, has plenty of power and the transmission shifts well for one of these older automatics. There is no slipping and the changes are not too harsh as is often the case. Does it leak oil? – of course but not chronically . On the road it takes a while to get used to with the steering being quite heavy and pulling slightly to the left. The power assist has not worked for some time. The suspension is quiet and the ride decent for an old car. The brakes feel strong and positive and pull up straight. The parking brake does not work. There is a wheel stud missing on the front right wheel.
Electrically, the wiring looks scary but most things seem to work. The horn, tach, LH indicator, speedo, radio and interior lights do not and the indicator switch is very finicky Both fuel tanks operate and change over from the switch on the dash, one side the gauge indicates full all the time and the other seems to be accurate most of the time. The clock is missing from the tach and it has been replaced with a pocket watch that almost looks like it should be there!
It has a good spare and in the trunk along with the original jack. The interior is in good shape and is quite complete. The seats were re-upholstered in nogahide many years back and the wood is all there and better than you might expect, although the dash top looks to have suffered a misguided refinishing attempt.
The paint is a few years old now and the panels are quite straight, there are a few stone chips that have been touched up. There is some evidence of crazing under the surface of the paint in a few places when closely inspected. There is also a small dent in the lower left front fender that has been covered with some matching vinyl. There is also some of this material along the front and rear edges of the sun roof panel, presumably to protect the paint from chipping. I tried briefly to open the sun roof but it seemed to need a little more effort than I was willing to give. The exterior finish overall has a great look and a glossy finish.
As far as the Chrome is concerned 90% of it is very good especially the bumpers and grille etc. a few of the outer chrome strips are in need of replating along with the drivers side inner door handle. The front and rear glass rubber is in need of replacement in fact there is a new one in the trunk for the windshield. The chrome strips that fit into these rubbers are included but they need some work.
The floors and body are in very good shape. The only area that looks to have seen any rust is the front passenger floor that has been replaced. It must have sat with a damp carpet on that side, at some time. This car is very complete, very elegant and it is the subject of conversation and compliments wherever it goes.
