Car to be at auction 9/13
www.kruseclassics.com/index.cfm

Auction description:
1959 Jaguar Mark IX Four Door Saloon - No Reserve
Lot# 311
Ext Color: Beige

British home market car with right-hand drive, finished in an attractive two-tone tan with dark tan leather seats, this is a rather solid car that need lots of TLC. It apparently has not run for a number of years but all mechanics are in place and unless there is a major internal issue with the engine this car appears to be able to be made roadworthy. Body is solid with no sign or rot or rust-out. Chrome work and bright trim are both a bit dull. Interior is supple and wood-work on doors and dash are in very good conditioning, though a clean-up would be in order. Fitted with a 1960's era transistor radio, Rev counter (aka tachometer), full instrumentation and the speed/odometer indicating 47,565 miles but there is no way to tell if those miles are from new, reset or rolled over. Car was serviced in the UK showing 47,108 miles in August of 1988, which may qualify this car for "barn-find" condition. She is a diamond in the rough.

Lot #8571

This 1959 Jaguar Mk IX is a running and driving project finished in cream over white with a brown leather interior. The 3.8-liter Mk IX was the largest saloon of Jaguar’s contemporary lineup, and this example is equipped with an automatic transmission. The selling dealer acquired the car in Texas and brought it to California. Since acquiring the car, the seller has rebuilt the brake master cylinder, replaced the brake lines, bled the brakes, and flushed the fuel system. This Jaguar is offered by the selling dealer with the original manuals and a clean California title.

The car is finished in cream with white side panels separated by chrome trim. It is unknown if the present color combination is original to the car. Per the seller some chips are present in the paintwork.

The cabin is upholstered in brown leather with matching carpets. Some wear is visible on the seating surfaces. Per the seller one of the fuel gauges is not working and 47,600 miles are shown.

Folding wooden trays are equipped for rear seat passengers.

Power comes from a 3.8-liter inline-six backed by a Borg Warner automatic transmission. Automatic transmission-equipped Mk IXs feature an electromagnetic hill-holder, servo-assisted Dunlop disc brakes, and power steering. The selling dealer flushed the fuel system, replaced the brake lines, rebuilt the master cylinder, and bled the brakes in preparation for sale. The wiring was reportedly reverted to factory specification.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
