Car returns to auction 9/24

www.carandclassic.com/auctions

Seller's description:

1961 Jaguar MkIX

Colour Multicolour

Odometer 83,492 Miles

Engine size3800

Seller TypePrivate

Town Meuse

Country France

In the hands of the current owner since 2013

Fully restored by a previous owner, documented in a copy of "Jaguar Driver" and won a competition shortly afterwards

Used sparingly and well maintained since restoration

This 1961 MkIX has the 3.8-litre XK in-line six under the bonnet, coupled to disc brakes, power steering, power brakes and a smooth three-speed automatic gearbox. The seller says it drives almost like a new car - which we can well believe. We are informed that he acquired the Jaguar in Ireland in 2013, prior to which it had undergone a full restoration in the UK.

The restoration was reportedly documented in a copy of Jaguar Driver magazine and the car went on to win an award for the quality of the work carried out.

Since its arrival and registration in France, the vendor tells us that the Jaguar has needed little more than routine servicing, a few repairs and some localised paintwork. Delivered with an MOT valid until 2029, it is ready to delight its future owner.

History and documents

Collector's registration document

MOT valid until 10/09/2029

The seller acquired the car in Ireland in 2013

Approximately €1,700 invested in paintwork and repair of a fluid leak

We are told that the numbers match

JDHT heritage certificate supplied

Two framed Jaguar Drivers' Club competition event certificates accompany the car

Condition

Superb two-tone exterior paintwork

The green paintwork has been refreshed fairly recently according to the vendor

Seller notes some light pitting to various chrome parts

Straight bodywork on both sides with clean body lines and tight fitting doors

No visible corrosion or damage

Superbly presented interior

Little wear to upholstery, carpets, door panels and headlining

The woodwork looks beautiful and we see no obvious signs of deterioration

Modern DIN stereo fitted

Original controls and four-spoke steering wheel retained in very good condition

There are no known defects to the electrical equipment or dashboard instruments

Mechanical

XK DOHC 3.8-litre in-line six-cylinder engine

Borg Warner DG three-speed automatic gearbox

Everything under the bonnet is in immaculate condition

We are advised that the car has been regularly serviced throughout the current ownership period

The vendor notes a small gearbox leak

The vendor comments that it drives "almost like a modern car" thanks to its disc brakes, automatic gearbox, power steering and energetic DOHC engine.

Car returns to auction 4/26

www.iconicauctioneers.com/1960-jaguar-mk-ix-3-8-litre-rec16988-1-sywell-0526

Auction description:

1960 Jaguar Mk IX 3.8

Estimate £20,000 - £25,000

Iconic Auctioneers - The Iconic Sale at Supercar Fest, Sywell, UK 16 May, 2026

Lot 578

JAGUAR MK IX 3.8 LITRE

Registration Number 486 XUY

Chassis Number 773891

Engine Number NC3270.8

Transmission Automatic

Body Colour Black over Sherwood Green

The car's Heritage Certificate confirms that it was finished in Black and Sherwood Green with a Suede Green leather interior and was despatched from the factory on the 12th February 1960 to distributor Henlys Ltd., of London and onward to its first owner, Wintex Ltd. of Baker Street W1.

The Jaguar has been restored in the past by renowned specialist, Doncaster-based M&C Wilkinson and remains matching numbers and in near concours condition some twenty years on. Accompanying the car is a photo library of restoration pictures.

The Jaguar is indeed well travelled, but more importantly cherished. Having previously been registered in England, Ireland and more recently in France where it resided from 2013 - 2025. Purchased by our vendor in 2025 the Jaguar was repatriated to England where is regained its last UK registration number. Having been driven back from France the vendor confirms, and to quote, ‘it never missed a beat’ over the 300 mile trip.

Naturally after an M&C Wilkinson full restoration it was Highly Commended Champion of Champions JDC in 2003/04; has featured on the cover of The Jaguar Drivers Magazine and had a five page feature entitled "The Finest Car in its Class in the World" - quite some accolade. The comprehensive history file contains records of many of the owner changes, registration changes and a full documentation of the maintenance program over the last 20 or so years. The toolkit is period correct and complete including the grease gun.
