From long-term ownership
Dating from 1954 according to the chassis number*, this charming Jaguar Mark VII has been in the current ownership for over 30 years and is now reluctantly offered for sale as our vendor is spending most of his time overseas. Old registration papers indicate the Mark VII was previously resident in Northern New South Wales but the early history isn’t known. Falling in love with the Big Cat when he stumbled across the car at a Sydney antique dealer’s premises, the Jaguar was duly purchased by our vendor and has been carefully maintained over the years, as documented in a hand-written log book and by the copious invoices on file.
Following a period of extended storage at his property in the Southern Highlands, the Jaguar was brought to Sydney and the brakes overhauled (with a new master cylinder and brake booster, new lines and all four wheel cylinders rebuilt) by Cathouse Spares of Mortdale in 2020. Further works included replacing the engine mounts, thermostat and housing, upper and lower ball joints and greasing and adjusting the front end. More recently the carburettors were overhauled, the fuel system flushed and fresh filters installed, along with a new choke solenoid. All told more than $6,000 has been spent recommissioning the car in preparation for sale.
Presenting in substantially original, unrestored condition, the Mark VII has developed a nice patina over the years – the front seats have been reupholstered in green vinyl while the rear seat was protected under a cover and the carpet replaced with decidedly non-original material. These Jaguars are slowly gaining recognition from collectors, and with relatively few left intact thanks to demand for their XK engines and other parts, survivors are becoming increasingly sought after. Perfect for club runs with family and friends, the Mark VII really is the quintessential British saloon of the immediate post-war era.
Sold unregistered and with No Reserve, the car will be supplied with a valid Pink Slip if sold to a resident in NSW (the previous plates JAG-751 are on hold with the RMS and available to the buyer) and comes with an original owner’s manual, service manual and copy of the spare parts catalogue.
*Please note the car has previously been registered in NSW as a 1951 model.
