1951 JAGUAR MK V 3.5 LITRE, 3-POSITION DROP-HEAD. Chassis #647558. Engine #Z5370. One of the country's prominent classic car collections in the late 1900's was that belonging to Charles Cawley, chairman, CEO and prime mover of MBNA Bank. Mr. Cawley was a perfectionist with all things--his estates, his boats and especially with his cars. Our 1951 MK V came from his collection after winning a "Senior First" award with the AACA at Hershey. Being someone only desiring the most rare and collectible of whatever field he had chosen, he of course chose a left-hand-drive example built with the more powerful 3.5 litre engine. We then sold the car to a husband-and-wife, British-car-collecting team in Mendham in 2005, then with 30,025 miles. The car shared their garage with two Morgans, several Rolls-Royce automobiles, an XK-120M Jaguar roadster which we had sold them earlier as well as other very neat toys. Making a decision this year to retire to their West Coast home, the couple decided to return the car to us for sale. It had traveled fewer than 1000 miles during their ownership and is exactly as nice now as it was upon our sale to them. Finished in Black (body and convertible top) with tan leather and carpets and fabulous burl walnut facia and cabin trim, the car features a complete tool kit fitted to the boot lid, a beautiful set of leather luggage--matching the leather of the car's interior--fitted to the boot, its original owner's manual and a huge collection of Best in Show and Best in Class trophies with which the car had been awarded during their ownership.
