This Jaguar is a Mark V in its most powerful 3.5L version and in convertible form, allows driving even in "mylord" mode. Destined for the American market to be sold through the well-known importer Hoffman of New York in 1951, this example is only one of 577 Mark V convertibles finished in left hand drive. According to a copy of the Illinois title on file, the car was still in the United States in 2001 since it was sold to a company on Long Island that year. End of 2007 the car had moved to Bilbao, Spain. When the car arrived in France in 2010, it had already been restored. The engine had been replaced with another one of the same type and the bodywork and upholstery had been refinished that make its current configuration different from the original. This restoration has overall aged well and our Mark V is today in good condition, in an elegant black and white color combination with a black hood and a light beige leather interior. Heavy torque, supple damping, and efficient braking were satisfying when testing this convertible which shows 25,200 miles. However, having driven little in recent years, we recommend a general service before taking full advantage of this British sports car.

This example is one of them and was sold new in the USA before being imported to France from California in 1997. It was then restored in Alan Lefèvre’s workshop and the woodwork restored by Philippe Dehaye. Today, this Jaguar has a consistent overall patina, and we were delighted by the smooth operation of its powerful six-cylinder engine, which starts immediately and has been well set up. The clutch is progressive and pleasant to use, as is the gearchange. The brake linings have been replaced, but the brakes will need to be balanced. The current owner, who is reluctantly selling the car following an operation on his arm, recently replaced the regulator, fuel pump and battery and had a battery cut-out switch fitted. With its flowing lines, leather and wood-trimmed interior and pleasing three-position hood, this Mark V offers the prospect of some splendid outings to come in this refined motorcar.
