This 1951 Jaguar Mk V is one of 577 left-hand-drive drophead coupes built with a 3.5-liter inline-six. Chassis 647404 underwent a refurbishment in New York that was completed in 1985 before it was purchased by the seller later that year. The car is finished in black and gray, and equipment includes a black soft top with landau bars as well as tri-bar headlamps, driving lights, wheel spats, 16” steel wheels, whitewall tires, an independent front suspension, hydraulic drum brakes, and dual SU carburetors. Inside, red leather upholstery is accompanied by wood trim, Smiths gauges, front lap belts, and bound carpeting. Service performed in 2025 involved rebuilding the water pump, repairing the clutch pivot and an interior door handle, and flushing the brake fluid. This Mk V is now offered in New York with manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a South Carolina title in the seller’s name.
Launched at the 1948 London Motor Show, the Mark V was the first Jaguar designed for production in both right- and left-hand-drive configurations. This example was refinished in black and gray during the refurbishment. The seller notes that additional paintwork on the right fender was performed in the late 1980s, and the gray-painted surfaces were refinished following an engine-bay fire in 2005. The three-position soft top with landau bars was replaced in the 1980s, and additional features include a Leaper mascot on the radiator cap, tri-bar headlights, Lucas driving lights, fender-mounted mirrors, cowl vents, wheel spats, and polished bumpers with overriders. The windshield was replaced in 2005, and a turn-signal flasher unit was installed in 2017. Corrosion on the lower valance is visible.
Color-keyed 16” steel wheels wear polished hubcaps, and they are wrapped in 6.00–16 Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewall tires. A spare wheel is stowed in a compartment below the trunk. The car rides on control arms with torsion bars up front, while the live rear axle is supported by longitudinal leaf springs. Replacement tie rods and steering-center-link bushings were installed in 2017. Braking is handled by hydraulic drums all around. The brake master cylinder was replaced in 2009, and it was rebuilt in 2017. The brake fluid was flushed in July 2025.
The seller tells us that the front bucket seats, rear bench, and door panels were retrimmed in red leather during the 1980s refurbishment. Color-coordinated carpeting topped with mats lines the floors, and burl wood veneer accents the dashboard, which is complemented by a wood shift knob, door caps, and trim. Equipment includes dual gloveboxes, a dash-mounted mirror, a pull-out storage tray, and front lap belts. Wear on the upholstery, carpeting, and wood trim is shown in the gallery. The passenger-side interior door handle was repaired in late 2025.
The four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 5k-rpm reverse-sweep tachometer with an inset clock, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and amperage. The tachometer was rebuilt in 2017. The five-digit odometer shows 80k miles, approximately 16k of which were added under the seller’s ownership.
The 3,485cc inline-six features a seven-main-bearing crankshaft, pushrod-operated overhead valves, and twin SU carburetors. Output was factory rated at 125 horsepower. Replacement wiring was installed in 2005, an oil change was performed in July 2025, and the water pump was also rebuilt in 2025.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted four-speed manual gearbox that was replaced in 2010. A replacement transmission top cover and driveshaft front flange were installed in 2011, and the clutch levers and bushings were replaced in 2017. The clutch pivot was repaired and welded in 2025. The exhaust system was installed in 2013.
The car’s chassis number is 647404, whereas the South Carolina title cites the VIN as the Z3370 engine number.
The South Carolina title carries “Antique” and “Actual Mileage” brands.
