This 1950 Jaguar Mark V drophead coupe is a left-hand-drive example finished in gray and black over burgundy leather upholstery and is powered by a 3.5-liter inline-six paired with a T5 five-speed manual gearbox. The car is said to have spent time with two owners in New York and underwent a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment completed in 2011 before being acquired by the current owner in 2016. Work during the refurbishment included replacing the transmission, installing a stainless-steel exhaust system, and updating the cooling and ignition systems. This Mk V convertible is now offered at no reserve on behalf of the current owner in Texas with a tool kit, reference manuals, handwritten notes, and a clean Texas title that lists it as a 1951 model.

A repaint in gray with black fenders and running boards was commissioned during the refurbishment, and the finish, trim, and noted flaws are captured in detail in the photo gallery below. Exterior accessories include Lucas-style driving lights, a leaper hood ornament, and rear fender spats. The three-position black cabriolet top is shown.

Steel wheels wear body-color hubcaps and are mounted with 16″ whitewall radial tires. Equipped with four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, the car rides on independent front suspension with torsion bars and a rigid rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs.

Cabin finishes include burgundy leather upholstery accompanied by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Polished burl wood trim is present on the dashboard, window pillars, and door tops, and additional features include a heater, a locking glove compartment, a fold-down rear armrest, and seat belts for the front and rear occupants.

Centralized Smiths instrumentation includes a reverse-sweep 5k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, a 120-mph speedometer, and a trio of auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates 65k miles, approximately 400 of which have been added by the current owner. True mileage is unknown.

The 3.5-liter inline-six features dual SU side-draft carburetors and a PerTronix distributor. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a T5 five-speed manual transmission installed during current ownership. Further updates are said to include a re-cored radiator, a high-output ignition coil, and a stainless-steel exhaust system.

The seller states an oil change was performed and the battery was replaced in February 2022. Service manuals, historical photos, and handwritten notes are included in the sale. The number plate shows chassis number 647253, which corresponds with a 1950 Drophead Coupe.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
