To be auctioned at Artcurial in Paris on Oct. 30th 2016, auctioneer's description:
Lot 102
1948 Jaguar MK IV cabriolet
No reserve

Belgian registration
Chassis # 637 332

- In the same family since 1965
- A true "barn-find" with beautiful original interior
- Rare LHD version
- No reserve

Registered in Belgium in July 1948, this Jaguar Mark IV has a frame number that corresponds to a convertible, specifically referred to as "drophead coupe", a particularly rare and desirable LHD version. The father of the deceased owner was a pharmacist in Brussels and the car had been offered in 1965 by a friend, the certificate of registration dates from that year. Delighted with this unexpected gift, the pharmacist used the car during the summer months, before storing it for a while and then embarking on a restoration. Though the dismantling began, he stopped soon after, with mainly the interior addressed. Since then, the car has been properly stored. It is in an enviable barn find condition, with a well preserved red leather interior and seats that should not require much more than a thorough cleaning. The woodwork is also well preserved and the dashboard is complete. The body is visibly sound and the car is fitted with its accessories and its soft top. This example has the advantage of being in an unrestored original condition, faithful to the original specifications.

Estimation 15 000 - 25 000 €

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
