Car to be at auction 8/10
www.rmauctions.com/FeatureCars.cfm

Auction description:
1948 Jaguar Mk IV Drophead Coupe
To be offered at auction WITHOUT RESERVE ,Saturday, August 14, 2010
Chassis No. 637251
Estimate:$100,000-$125,000 US

- From the collection of Kathy and Jerry Nell
- First postwar Jaguar model and first built in left-hand drive
- Shown at multiple JCNA shows

Jaguar collectors Gerald and Kathy Nell bought this car from John Kimberly in New York in 1989. It was completely restored in 1983, with all new wood inside, as well as a fresh repaint in crimson with black fenders. The Nells showed it energetically between 1989 and 1992. At 11 JCNA shows, the Chicago International Concours and Meadow Brook Concours, it scored between 98.70 and 99.6 points. The odometer indicates 10,211 miles. Exceedingly rare, it is one of only 376 3.5-liter Mark IV Drophead Coupes with a three-position top.
Addendum
Please note this car is titled by the engine number.

Car to return to auction 11/18

www.mecum.com/lots/LN1118-335060/1948-jaguar-mkiv-drophead-coupe/

Lot S174 Las Vegas 2018 Nov 15-17

Estimate $200,000 - $250,000

Highlights

1 of 4,420 3.5 Liter models produced

1 of only 376 produced with 3-position top

CCCA Full Classic

Body no. C 1315

3.5L inline 6-cylinder engine, engine no. SL3199

4-speed manual gearbox, no SH1202

Two-tone Burgundy and Black finish

Tan folding soft top

Tan leather upholstery

Burlwood dash and door sill accents

Smiths instruments

Dual wipers

Free-standing headlamps

Jaguar mascot

Chrome wire wheels with spinners

Wide Whitewall tires

Tool kit integrated into deck lid

This example is one of only 4,420 versions produced with the 3.5L, the 125 HP unit that squirted the prewar SS100 to a heady 104 MPH and could propel the sturdily built MkIV—with its slick 4-speed manual transmission—beyond 90 MPH. This machine—Body No. C1315—is something far more select, as one of only 376 drophead coupes that were built for the 1948 model year. That makes the MkIV drophead coupe nearly as select as the SS100. This CCCA Full Classic is liveried in burgundy and black with a three-position folding top in tan, complemented by leather upholstery of the same hue and burr walnut dash and trim. Whitewall tires on chrome wire wheels with spinners provide a final flourish. Smiths instruments, dual wipers and free-standing headlamps are factory standard; the Jaguar hood mascot is an optional extra. The whole ensemble is completed by the tool set integrated into the decklid, something even the SS100 did not offer.

1948 Jaguar 3 ½-Litre Mark IV Drophead Coupe

Monterey Jet Center Auction 2023 | Estimate: $90,000 - $110,000

Chassis No. 637251

Engine No. SL3199

Body No. C1315

According to Jaguar Heritage Trust, this 3 ½-Litre Mark IV Drophead Coupe chassis number 637251 was produced on 17 June 1948 and first sold as a left-hand-drive example through International Motors in Los Angeles, California. Originally finished in Battleship Grey over a black interior, today it wears a fetching two-tone exterior livery of maroon with black fenders. The exterior features all the highly finished jewelry expected on a post-war luxury car including painted knock-off wire wheels with whitewall tires, dual fender mirrors, landau bars, and an accessory badge bar. The interior, with seating for five, has been smartly restored in tan leather with an appropriately matched three-position beige soft top. Smiths gauges are set into a burlwood dashboard, with additional wood trim surrounding the windshield and door tops. A toolkit is exquisitely integrated into the trunk lid and a driver's Instruction Book completes the amenities.

Since joining the Academy of Art University Collection in 2010, this matching-numbers example of Jaguar's final pre-war Jaguar saloon has rubbed shoulders with many of the finest, artfully designed vehicles made, and for good reason! Jaguar Mark IV's, especially well-restored examples in 3 ½-Litre specification with the rare, flowing Drophead Coupe coachwork with seating for five, are the epitome of the space, grace, and pace for which post-war Jaguars are known.

Sold Price: $78,400
