A very original and correct matching numbers "Preservation Class Survivor"
The car has been in the family since 1957 and is now offered for sale to settle an estate. My Grandfather was a Jaguar Dealer in Kansas and took the MK IV on trade for a new XK 140, fell in love with it and kept it. Since then the car has been used only for parades and car shows. It shows 48K miles, which we believe to be correct.
The car has always been stored indoors and shows no signs of rust. There are the usual dings and scratches you would expect from nearly 70 years of service. The rear interior is quite nice as it was rarely used. The front seats will need some panels replaced. The car is pretty much as it left the factory other than normal service items. The cloth top, headliner and carpet were replaced in 1973. The serial numbers, colors, specifications etc. match the JCNA Heritage Certificate. Allan Crouch's recent book "SS and Jaguar cars, 1936-51" indicates there were only 315 of this model produced. Some experts estimate that less than half have survived.
The car recently underwent an extensive service by David Nock of British Car Specialists in Stockton CA. Radiator, heater, fuel and oil pressure lines were replaced as well as two new correct SU fuel pumps and a new battery. The car starts, stops, shifts and drives well.
Known issues are:
Tachometer, fuel gauge and wipers are not working. The "Trafficators" (turn signals) extend but don't retract on their own.
The tool kit is missing the combination wrench and the adjustable wrench.
The tires look new, but are in fact 40 years old. They may be okay for parades or display but I wouldn't trust them for touring. There may be other minor issues I am unaware of, but all major systems seem to be functioning well.
The car was originally from the state of Kansas and subsequently Oklahoma. It now has an Oklahoma AV (Antique Vehicle) plate. My Father acquired the car from my Grandfather in 1963. I have good documentation of repair and part receipts and some registration papers from 1963 on, unfortunately nothing from 1957 to 1963.
