This 1950 Jaguar MK V is a right-hand-drive example that spent time in California and was acquired by the seller in 2005 following a partial refurbishment in the 1990s that included refinishing the body in two-tone white and red. The car is powered by a 3.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and equipment includes fender-mounted side mirrors, driving lamps, 16″ steel wheels, rear wheel skirts, red leather upholstery, a sunroof, and a burl wood dash and interior trim. Service under current ownership is said to have included replacing the generator, distributor, water pump, and shocks, servicing the brakes, performing a valve job, and installing porcelain-coated exhaust manifolds. This MK V is offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The car was refinished in two-tone white and red in the 1990s and features chrome-finished bumpers and trim, driving lights, fender-mounted mirrors, rear fender skirts, and a sunroof. The paint is chipped on various panels.

Black 16″ steel wheels wear polished covers and are mounted with older Allstate whitewall tires. A spare, jack, and tool kit are stowed in a compartment beneath the trunk. The car rides on independent front suspension with torsion bars and is equipped with four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Work under current ownership is said to have included replacing the shocks and front suspension bushings as well as the wheel cylinders and brake master cylinder.

The right-hand-drive cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in red and white leather and joined by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Polished burl wood trim accents the dashboard, window pillars, and door tops, and additional features include a heater, a dash-mounted mirror, a locking glove compartment, a fold-down rear armrest, and wind-up windows. The upholstery is scuffed and additional blemishes are visible.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts centrally-mounted Smiths instrumentation consisting of a reverse-sweep 5k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock, a 120-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and amperes. The speedometer cable is broken, and the fuel gauge does not work. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 26k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added by the current owner. Total mileage is unknown.

The 3.5-liter inline-six features dual SU side-draft carburetors and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Work under current ownership is said to have included replacing the generator, distributor, water pump, radiator, and performing a valve job as well as installing porcelain-coated exhaust manifolds.

Engine number T9578 matches the VIN listed on the California title.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
