    Car to be at bonhams auction 8/08
    www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r

    Auction description:
    Sale 16133 - Quail Lodge, A Sale of Exceptional Motorcars and Automobilia, 15 Aug 2008
    Quail Lodge Resort and Golf Club, Carmel, California

    Lot No: 302•
    1964 Jaguar Mark X Saloon
    Chassis no. 3504258W

    The Mark X Jaguar on offer is one of the cars originally sent to North America. Finished in an attractive burgundy hue with opulent cream leather, it is equipped with the automatic gearbox and factory air conditioning.

    This big Jag Saloon was bought new in California and used little for many years. Upon the owner’s death, his daughter, Jovita Valdez, took possession of the car. Her employer started an extensive and very expensive restoration, but then decided to sell it shortly after showing it at the 2007 Newport Beach Concours, where it took a third in class.

    During the course of the restoration, all mechanical components were carefully rebuilt, along with new paint, upholstery, carpets and chrome. Along the way an XJ6 four-speed automatic, a modern stereo were fitted and new center lock wire wheels were fitted.

    After acquiring the Mark X, the current owner attended to many details to bring it to what he calls an “overall excellent standard.” The result is an outstanding example of a Jaguar model seldom seen and virtually never restored. This lovely big Jaguar can be driven anywhere or shown competitively. But where ever it goes it is sure to turn heads and kindle memories.

    Without reserve

    Estimate: $40,000 - 50,000

    ABSOLUTELY STUNNING 1964 Jaguar Mark X
    Finished in an attractive burgundy hue with opulent cream leather it is equipped with the automatic gearbox and factory air conditioning.

    This Jag Saloon was bought new in California and used little for many years. An extensive and very expensive restoration was completed 2007. During the course of the restoration over $80,000 was spent on all mechanical components, new paint, upholstery, carpets and chrome.

    An XJ6 four speed automatic gearbox and new center lock wire wheels were fitted. Mechanically sound. Suspension is tight. Transmission shiifts are smooth.

    Everywhere you look on this car it is absolutely stunning and of the highest quality. It is the nicest Mark X I have ever seen (which is why I purchased it). It is absolutely gorgeous and truly shows off what Jaguar supplied as its top of the line luxury car in 1964.

    In April 2009 I had $4,400 of servicing done to the car.
    * A/C system was completely gone through with all hoses replaced, drier replaced, new compressor and system converted to 134A and recharged.
    * Converted to electronic ignition
    * Radiator rebuilt
    * Complete tune up & oil change
    * Brake vacuum check valve replaced and system flushed & bled
    * Steering intermediate rod bushigs replaced, Idler arm bearing serviced
    * Transmisstion flushed & filled

    Current bid $12,211 reserve not met, 13 bids 8 days left in auction. Seller is in St. Louis, Missouri.

    Seller is Motoexotica, their description:
    This particular car has gone through a very thorough restoration in the last few years and is in show winning quality. This is a three owner car that the original owner had until just a few years ago. The second owner purchased the car in Montana, kept it for about 1 year and then sold to the gentleman that we are selling it for. The miles are correct at 50,639.

    The paint on the car is in wonderful condition with no flaws to speak of. The body is extremely straight on this big body Jaguar and all doors shut tight, with ease. Both front and rear bumpers look great and have both been rechromed. All of the steel trim and chrome around the car looks great with no imperfections as well as the front grill. Glass is free of cracks and chips. All four wheels are newer chrome wires that look great and are wrapped with newer radial tires.

    Inside, the interior is all new and has been completely reupholstered. The carpet, seats and headliner all look better then when the car was new. Real wood trim accents the interior and looks incredible. The rear picnic tables look great as well. Both front seats look nearly perfect with no imperfections. The soft leather is in great condition and is new. Gauges are all in good working order as well as all lights, blinkers and accessories.

    Under the hood, the original 6 cylinder (ZA1780-9) runs great and very smooth. Even on cold days, the car starts up with no problems and no choking. The engine compartment is nicely detailed and very original. This is an A/C car that works with on problems. The A/C was added a few years ago and is a very nice touch to the car. The automatic transmission shifts with no problems and lets the car go down the highway at normal speeds with little effort.

    The underside of the car is very solid with no rot that we have seen. There has been a light coat applied to prevent any future rust from starting. We are selling this car for a client of ours who purchased the car out of Montana. The current mileage shows 50,639 and the VIN number is 350425BW.
