[View all lots in this auction]
1966 Jaguar Mk2 3.8-Litre Saloon
Presented in very good condition throughout, this immaculate Jaguar Mk2 3.8 was purchased by the current owner, only its third from new, at Brooks Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale on 23rd June 2000 (Lot 930). At that time the car had covered some 76,000-or-so miles from new and had yet to be run in following a total restoration completed in 1999. It has now covered fewer than 5,000 miles since completion. PPP 804D was acquired from its original owner by a Mr Charles Clifford, who used it for club competitions from 1981. (A copy of the 1987 Jaguar factory calendar featuring the car is included with it). Described by the vendor as in near mint condition, PPP 804D benefits from a rebuilt engine, suspension and transmission, and features chromed wire wheels and a completely renovated interior incorporating new headlining, woodwork and seats. Both engine and suspension have been up-rated, the former having a straight-port cylinder head, 9:1 compression ratio, balanced and toughened crankshaft and SU HD8 carburettors, while the latter benefits from a Harvey Bailey handling kit incorporating stiffer roll bars front and rear. Finished in Opalescent Golden Sand, the car has the desirable manual/overdrive transmission and red leather interior, the latter said to be particularly impressive. It is offered with tool kit, current road fund licence, MoT to June 2008 and Swansea V5 registration document.

Car returns to auction 12/10

Auction description:
Auction Date: 04 December 2010
Lot - 1966 Jaguar Mk.II 3.8 litre MoD
* Registration: PPP 804D
* Chassis Number: 235164DN
* Engine Number: LE 3725-8
* Odometer reading: 81,000
* Estimate: £19,000 - £23,000
The car offered here was manufactured 8th June 1966 and transferred via Henlys of London to Henlys of Manchester in July 1966 from whence it was sold. Presented in period Opalescent Golden Sand bodywork with contrasting Red leather interior, the car is currently fitted with period competition front seats trimmed to match the rear seats. The original front seats which are in as new condition complete with picnic tables also accompany the car.
It is believed the car has covered approximately 81,000 miles from new and this is supported by MOT's going back to 1981 when the recorded mileage was 64,000. The car has had 3 previous owners. The second owner, Mr Charles Clifford bought 'PPP 804D' in 1981 and used it for club competitions and the car featured in this guise in the 1987 Jaguar factory calendar (a copy of which is also included with the Lot). The car can also been seen in photos of the pits at JDC race meetings in Nigel Thorley's book "Jaguar Mk.I & Mk.II; The Complete Companion".
This much cared for Mk.II benefits from an uprated engine including a 9:1 compression ratio, 2" HD8 SU carburettors, lightened flywheel, balanced crankshaft, Hayward & Scott uprated stainless steel exhaust system including tubular manifolds, electronic ignition and alternator conversion. Uprated front and rear brake callipers, new disks and pads along with Electric power steering are also fitted. The bulging history file includes receipts in the region of £20,000, the majority of which are with CKL Developments, the Jaguar specialists of Battle, East Sussex.
A Harvey Bailey handling kit is fitted along with new 6"x15" chrome competition wire wheels shrouded by Avon CR6ZZ tyres added not more than 1000 miles ago. Smaller steel 'Coombs style' rear spats have been fitted to accommodate the wider wheels. In our opinion, this generates a more appealing profile view, and gives the impression of rapid movement, even at a standstill.
PPP 804D is as good as we've seen, and is attractively estimated given its condition and the insatiable appetite that remains for quality examples of these sought-after models. The car comes with V5C registration documents, a complete original tool kit and fresh MoT certificate valid until November 2011.
