Car to be at auction 5/26

www.historics.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-1964-jaguar-mk-ii-38-litre/

Auction description:

16th May, 2026 Flight of Elegance; Farnborough International

1964 Jaguar Mk. II (3.8 litre)

Estimate £16,000 - £20,000

Chassis No: 233285DN

Engine No: LC25438

Odometer: 69,123

First registered on 16th December 1964, this particular example is presented in attractive condition. The red coachwork remains smart and well-kept, while the interior reflects Jaguar’s traditional craftsmanship, featuring quality upholstery and a classic walnut dashboard. Powered by the desirable 3.8 litre engine paired with a manual gearbox and overdrive, the car offers strong performance and smooth power delivery. A relatively new set of chrome wire wheels enhances its presence and period appeal.

Purchased by the current owner in November 2021, the car has since undergone a comprehensive restoration and mechanical refresh, with over £30,000 invested during 2022 by respected Jaguar specialist M&C Wilkinson of Doncaster. The work carried out was extensive; the front subframe was removed, stripped, repaired and refinished before being rebuilt with new polyurethane suspension bushes throughout. A power steering conversion was installed using a full rack kit and new pump, while the dynamo was replaced. The braking system was upgraded with new front discs, calipers and braided hoses as part of an aluminium brake conversion, along with a new servo and vacuum tank. Corroded sections of the front chassis leg and inner wing were also professionally repaired with newly fabricated panels.

Further mechanical work included the removal and full rebuild of the rear axle, which was reinstalled with new discs, hubs, calipers, pads and handbrake components, together with new brake pipes and suspension bushes. The engine bay received considerable attention, including a new wiring loom, electronic ignition distributor, Bosch coil and high-torque starter motor. The carburettors were rebuilt with new military-specification floats, while cooling has been improved with an alloy radiator, electric fan kit and new hose set. Additional work included the refurbishment of the heater system, installation of stainless steel heater pipes and fitment of a Bell stainless steel exhaust system. The clutch pedal assembly was also rebuilt with a new master cylinder and braided hose, and the underside of the car was thoroughly treated and undersealed.

The XK engine starts easily, runs smoothly and maintains good oil pressure. The vendor reports that the car drives well with no known faults. The chromework remains in good order and the dashboard continues to present attractively. Accompanied by a substantial history file documenting maintenance over the years, the car recorded a mileage of 25,771 in 1970, with the current odometer reading of 69,123 believed correct, though not warranted.

Supplied with a V5C registration document, this well-restored Jaguar Mk. II 3.8 offers classic 1960s style, strong performance and comfortable touring ability, supported by extensive recent specialist work. Consigned by James Good

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
