Car to be at auction 6/25

Auction description:
1962 Jaguar Mk II 3.8
Estimate £25,000 - £35,000
Aguttes - Automobiles de Collection - La Vente d'Été, Paris, France
29 June, 2025
Lot 16

Chassis No. 220951DN
French classic car registration document
The car that illustrates these pages, dark green with a black interior, is a desirable 3.8L. Originally built with a manual gearbox with overdrive, it likely suffered an engine failure, as it is now equipped with a 3.8S engine and a Borg Warner manual gearbox (note a small leak; the oil level should be checked regularly). Owned by a former Scuderia Ferrari engine engineer for nearly 15 years, this Jaguar has benefited from a rare mechanical overhaul, with over €30,000 in invoices: cylinder head reground, timing chain replaced, brakes rebuilt, power steering rebuilt (not original), etc.
Mk 2 Jaguars are available at all price points, but this 3.8L, which may need to be re-engined, is an excellent base, and moreover, offered at a reasonable estimate considering the work it has already undergone. We also like the overall patina.

Car returns to auction 3/26

Auction description:

Live, March 23 | 6:00 AM

Osenat

50 - 1962 JAGUAR Mk 2 3.8 L

Estimate €25,000 - €35,000

1962 JAGUAR Mk 2 3.8 L

• Classic Car Registration

• Serial Number: 220951DN

• 3.8 L Inline 6-cylinder engine (XK)

• Highest performing version of the Mk II (3.8 L engine, twin SU carburetors, the most sought-after in the range)

• File of invoices covering several years

The example presented here is equipped with the 3.8L twin-cam engine, paired with an automatic transmission. First registered on August 10, 1962, the serial number indicates that it left the factory with a manual gearbox and overdrive. The engine comes from a 3.8S. The engine does not match the factory configuration.

Restored about fifteen years ago, this Mk2 3.8L shows the effects of time while benefiting from well-maintained mechanics. The bodywork and interior (upholstery and woodwork) are in good overall condition. In September 2021, this car underwent a front brake overhaul costing €3,221 (invoices available). Repairs and repainting of the trunk and front doors have also been carried out recently (invoices available).

However, there is an oil leak in the gearbox and will need to be repaired to obtain a valid roadworthiness certificate.

A representative example of British craftsmanship, intended for collector or leisure use.

The vehicle description is based on information provided by the seller, who remains solely responsible for the condition of the vehicle. Maison Osenat verifies its accuracy.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
