www.bonhams.com/auctions/26005/preview_lot/5350043/

Auction description:
1960 Jaguar Mark 2 3.8-Litre Saloon
Chassis no. 213489BW
€ 30,000 - 40,000
US$ 33,000 - 45,000
To be sold without reserve
Les Grandes Marques du Monde au Grand Palais
•Delivered new to New York, USA
•Matching numbers
•Extensively restored
•Comes with Jaguar Heritage Certificate

This automatic-transmission Mark 2 left the factory on 20th July 1960 and was delivered new to New York, USA. A matching-numbers example, the Jaguar was exported to the Netherlands in 1992, eventually ending up in Belgium and being extensively restored. We are advised that the chassis is in very good restored condition, and the body likewise. The British Racing Green paintwork and matching leather interior are said to be in good condition, as is the brightwork. Both the engine and gearbox have been overhauled, and the car is said to run smoothly. Noteworthy features include the original tool kit. The car is offered with a Heritage Certificate, restoration invoices, sundry brochures, and a Belgian Carte Grise.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
