Auction description:
1962 Jaguar Mk II
Quail Lodge Motor Cars, Bonhams & Butterfields (19th August 2005)
Overview
Fully-restored, this dark metallic green Mk II looks almost black in certain light. Inside, the cockpit has been retrimmed in black leather.
Tastefully updated so that it is suitable for modern traffic conditions, although this Mk II began as a 3.8, it now benefits from a big-valve, high-compression 4.2 mated to a General Motors 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission. A stainless steel exhaust system was fitted as part of the restoration in 2000.
Daily driving is made much easier by the addition of power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, big brakes and Koni shock absorbers. A heavy duty cross-flow radiator will keep this big cat cool, even with the Vintage Air blowing cold. The Vintage Air installation also includes a heater as well as an air conditioning unit. Driver and passenger alike will also enjoy the electric sunroof.
Externally, this particular green Jaguar sedan is distinguished by chrome wire wheels with Avon tires, and Coomb-style rear wheel arch spats and louvered bonnet. With the same owner for a decade, the Mk II is titled in California and comes with a current registration.

Classified ad price: $97,500 car now said to be in Huntington Station, New York, seller vantage1227, 5k miles.
Seller's description:
1962 JAGUAR 3.8 LITER MK 2 SALOON: --Dark Green metallic with Black leather interior, Black carpeting, Uprated to 4.2 Liter inline 6-cylinder engine, Automatic transmission, Restored, Vintage Air, Sunroof. Elegant and sporty, the 3.8 Mk 2 was one of the fastest four-door saloons in its day. It was stunning to look at and exceptional to drive. The 3.8 utilized a twin-carburetor variant of the engine for the E-Type. It shared the same block, crank, connecting rods and pistons. With 220bhp, the engine hauled the MK 2 to a top speed of 126mph. This example of the 3.8 Mk 2 has been uprated and fitted with the 4.2 Liter triple carbureted engine from an E-type. It packs quite the punch in this sporty saloon. Fully restored in the early 2000’s, this Mk 2 saloon has been tastefully uprated for use in both touring and modern traffic conditions. Utilizing the bigger 4.2 Liter, triple carbureted inline-six cylinder from the E-type, this Mk 2 was also fitted with a GM 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission. During the restoration other upgrades included a stainless-steel exhaust system, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, bigger disc brakes, Koni shock absorbers, a heavy duty cross-flow radiator, Vintage Air Conditioning system including heat and cold A/C and well as the installation of an electric sunroof. Having just two collector owners since the 1990’s, this Mk 2 is in superb condition throughout. All systems work as they should. A recent road test attests its being in excellent mechanical condition and extremely fun to drive. This Mk 2 includes its original operating maintenance and service handbook, original tool kit and original knock-off hammer. With its tasteful updates, this Mk 2 represents a great value for a collector or enthusiast seeking an enjoyable and reliable vintage Jaguar.
