Car at auction 3/26

Auction description:
Lot 191968 Jaguar Mk II 340 saloon [Location: Melbourne]
Chassis / Vin number: 7JS1499BW
Engine number: 7JS1862-S
Last registration: PMY-672 (Victoria)
Odometer: 79731 miles
A Tourist Delivery car taken directly from the Browns Lane (Jaguar factory) stock, this 1968 Jaguar Mk II 340 was delivered new by Henleys of London and, incredibly, has been in the same continuous family ownership ever since!
That’s 57 years of devoted care from its medico owner and family, all of it bar the first 12 months in the milder climes of Brisbane, as the Jag was imported here just a year after its delivery in the UK.
A last-of-the-line Mk II model, this 340 is finished in Old English White duco, which was repainted by the well-respected Bump Stop in 2010, at the same time as some rust remediation work, which included new steel in the sills, guards and doors.
Specified with Black Ambla trim and factory-fitted seatbelts – rare at the time – the 340 saw power steering added in the early ‘80s, and stylish chrome wire wheels fitted (including the ‘spare’) in 1998.
Today, the Jaguar saloon’s condition is reflective of the care lavished on it, its regularly garaging, and being driven multiple times every week over more than five decades.
Its paintwork continues to present well, as does the interior, where its front seats have been protected by covers since new, although there is a small tear in the driver’s seat base.
There’s a general air of use inside—no surprise for such an original 58 yar old car – and a few details could be tidied up, however overall, it’s in great shape with things like unmarked grey felt headlining and beautiful woodwork on the dashboard and doors, which were removed and fully restored using marine estapol.
Automatic transmission makes the Jaguar saloon more useable in modern traffic, as does the fitment of electronic ignition, upgrades to the electrical system including the starter motor, generator and wiring, and fitment of a ‘kill’ switch.
Now indicating 79,731 miles and regularly maintained and serviced, by mileage initially and more recently by time, it has been tended to throughout its life by renowned Jaguar specialists R.C. Grieve and latterly by Superior Motors.
Recent work has included a disc brake overhaul.
Accompanying the 340 are its original UK plates (NWK-199F), its Tourist Delivery invoice, a sales brochure, and factory handbooks and tools, together with a Jaguar Trust Heritage Certificate confirming the car’s authenticity.
Rarely do you find a very genuine one-owner classic car for sale after over 57 years of continual family ownership. That alone makes this lovely 1968 Jaguar Mk II 340 saloon something special.
