Car returns to auction 4/26

angliacarauctions.co.uk/auctions/2752-11-Apr-2026/13569~1-1969-jaguar-240

Auction description:

Sat 11 & Sun 12 April

1969 JAGUAR 240

LOT 409

Estimate:  £5,000 - £7,000

Chassis number: 1J3702DN

Engine size: 2483cc

This green Jaguar 240 is a manual example with overdrive, and comes with a large maintenance history from 1999 onwards. Receipts show that, in the last few years, work has included renewing the tyres, clutch master cylinder, fuel pump, spark plugs and gearbox oil, fitting new seat belts, stripping the carbs, and carrying out a full service at 98,031 miles. Today the odometer is showing 98,200 miles, and the vendor describes the mechanical condition as excellent. Two spare keys, tool box and a Jaguar badge are also present. The last 3 MoTs were passed without any advisories, although the latest expired in 2018. (As a historic vehicle, the car now MoT exempt.)

Paperwork includes previous and current V5Cs, various photos (some showing structural restoration work), MoT certificates covering 1990 to 2015, and an issue of Classic Car Weekly featuring this car in 2017. The original green logbook is also present, indicating that XLR 957G was first registered to a London SW19 buyer on 2nd January 1969.

The latest V5C shows 5 former keepers.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
