Car to be at auction 8/21
angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic/sat-28th-29th-august/1968-jaguar-240-mod/

Auction description:
1968 Jaguar 240 M/OD
Lot Number:
Estimate: £12,000 - 15,000

V5 Present
Chassis number: 1J2836DN

Acquired by the vendor in 1988 in running condition, this Jaguar 240 underwent a major restoration during the mid‑1990s. The car was stripped, with its engine, gearbox and interior out, and body and chassis repairs carried out. Five wire wheels, with tyres, were fitted (with the wheels themselves coming to £775), and and the engine checked over, with repairs to the gearbox and back axle. New brake pipes were installed while, inside, the dash and door cappings were re‑veneered, and the carpets and headlining were replaced.

The history folder includes MoTs back to 2009, but going back considerably further, there's the original 1968 green logbook, as well as the operating, maintenance and service handbook, Jaguar service facilities booklet, maintenance chart, service vouchers and other documentation given when the car was brand new, all still in their Jaguar‑branded plastic folder. There are a great many bills and receipts dating back to the 1990s, all testifying to a car that has been well‑looked after during the last few decades. A lot of these have been handily itemised on a couple of handwritten sheets by one of the owners. For those happy to get their hands dirty, there's a hefty genuine Jaguar workshop manual as well.

The car's condition remains very good inside and out. The current odometer reading is 59,027 miles.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
