This D-Type evocation was built simply to race and win and is quite possibly one of the most highly developed and powerful D-Type evocations ever constructed. Built and developed upon a Brooklands/Revival Motorsport competition chassis, the specification is well beyond that of the well respected 'production Revival' cars. A regular winner in the Aston Martin Owners Club Intermarque series and Powered by Jaguar racing series at the hands of Thornton Mustard, excerpts in the history file show this car to be seriously competitive.

For example at Mallory Park in April 2008 the car won outright with the fastest lap of 52.994 seconds beating three Ferrari F355 Challenges, four Aston Martin DB4's and a number of race prepared Porsche 911's to name but a few. Often qualifying and finishing on the podium, this D-Type evocation has a proven successful history on the circuit over the past few years.

The engine is a 4.4 litre Jaguar straight six, a 4.2 litre block over bored 60 thou with a twin plug cylinder head. JE Pistons are fitted with steel conrods, 2 inch inlet valves with standard exhaust valves, new crankshaft and mapped ignition with DTA off the front crankshaft and a dry sump. Fuel is supplied through a fuel injection system with Jenvey throttle bodies and Weber injectors, a Rob Beere flywheel transmits the power and a modified rear seal (lip seal) corrects common crank oil leaks. Additional specifications include an oil cooler, alloy radiator and thermo electric fan. A dyno chart supplied with the car shows an astonishing 379bhp @ 7000rpm and 352lb ft torque @ 5000rpm!

The Gearbox is a 5 speed dog box, Glebe based on a T5 unit within a Tremec casing and the clutch is a 7 ¼ inch twin plate. The rear axle has a limited slip differential fitted with magnesium casing and is geared to reach 135mph in top gear, therefore suitable for racing on any UK circuit.

As well as the racing wheels and tyres fitted there are two extra sets of alloy Compomotive wheels and racing tyres included in the sale. The brakes are made by Alcon and are hand assembled with a named assembler, the rear brakes are outboard mounted for ease of servicing. The suspension comprises of a set of Penske three way adjustable oil and nitrogen coil over's.

The chassis is a competition chassis developed by John Arnold of Brooklands/Revival Motorsport and is marked to confirm this. The body is made of carbon fibre and the bonnet is formed from single layer carbon fibre. Buyers should note that the vendor can supply a body in glass fibre should the new owner require and his details will be supplied to the new owner of this lot.

Further specifications include a full roll cage, plumbed fire extinguisher system with external firing mechanism, electrical cut out, racing battery, slave battery with external plugged connection, alloy fuel cell and a quick release steering wheel.

The number thirteen, as seen on the car was not thought to be unlucky but was chosen the owner would not be forever be changing numbers at different race venues as the thinking was, no one else would choose this number. It turned out to certainly be a lucky number. Also, an individual number plate was put on purely for racing and does not relate to the V5C, therefore, although at present a full race car, the car is currently registered and is supplied with a V5C but does not carry an MOT. This vehicle is not road legal and would require works to make it so.

Here is an opportunity to obtain a well known successful club racer in the style of one of the most enigmatic race cars of motoring history, the D-Type. The build cost is said to be in excess of £100,000 and we reckon that makes this hugely exciting car a real bargain at the price we have estimated. A magnificent racing car!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
