Car at auction 3/26
www.lloydsonline.com.au/LotDetails.aspx
Auction description:
1964 Jaguar S Type 3.8S four-door saloon finished in Old English White. Right-hand drive, rear-wheel drive. Powered by a 3.8-litre twin-cam inline-six petrol engine with twin SU carburettors paired with an automatic transmission. Odometer indicating 35,732 miles. Seating for five. Chassis 1B52983BW, Engine 7B54812. Presented as a restoration project: non-running, with rust and dents. Located at Altona, VIC.
The Jaguar S-Type (1963-1968) sits between the Mk II and the 420 in Jaguar's saloon range, sharing the monocoque body with independent rear suspension on all four corners. The 3.8-litre variant is the more powerful and more desirable of the two engine options. These are genuinely sought after by restorers as the basis for a quality period Jaguar with a pedigree independent rear end.
This example is offered honestly as a project car. The body is Old English White with an oxblood/maroon leather interior. The engine is present and appears complete with twin SU carburettors intact, though the car is reported non-running and will require a full mechanical inspection and recommissioning. The sills have significant corrosion along their full length, the front driver's wing shows rust-through, and the rear wheel arches have moderate to severe rust requiring panel repairs. The boot floor also shows moisture-related deterioration. This is a body-off restoration candidate or a committed panel-by-panel repair project.
On the positive side, the interior is largely complete, the leather is dirty but intact with no major splits in the main seat faces, the door trims are present, the walnut veneer is deteriorated but present. Keys are included. The car retains its original Australian-market radio. At its current price level, this represents a viable project car with all the major components accounted for.
Price Guide: $6,000 - $12,000
