In 2020, the Jaguar received around ~£1,500 worth of parts, which are shown in the Paperwork section, Brian told us due to unforeseen circumstances the work was halted. Since then, the car has covered just a handful of miles before being put into storage due to lack of use.

There are several invoices showing parts purchased, along with a handy workshop manual that will come in useful for whoever takes on the recommissioning project. Brian has always kept the MK2 garaged during his ownership.

It’s certainly a nice little project for the enthusiast or home mechanic to tackle, or even send to your local classic specialist for some light fettling and recommissioning. We look forward to seeing this classic Jaguar hit the road once again.

We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including verifying photo ID, the V5C, and an HPI check. This confirms the car has not been stolen, written off, or has any outstanding finance. Please note: this check does not include mileage verification.

Purchased in 1990, Brian and his wife have always been fans of the Mk2 Jaguar; in fact, it was his wife who was more eager to take the car out, often heading to a local pub on a sunny afternoon for a spot of lunch. Brian told us; "Who didn’t want to drive a Mk2 Jag like Inspector Morse? The growl of the 3.4L engine, the beauty of the 'Carmen Red' paint, and the exhilaration of putting her into overdrive. We used it for a wedding car for my sister-in-law, and the kids used to love it when I picked them up from school in it."

Brian has always kept the Mk2 garaged, for the past five years the car hasn’t been used an enormous amount and, as a result, has spent the past couple of years in storage. Due to the car being in storage, it is being sold as needing to be recommissioned, as there is a small fuel leak from the carburettors.

Walking around the Jaguar, the bodywork generally appears to be in good condition. There are a couple of corrosion blisters in places, but nothing which has broken through the paint. The panels look to align well, apart from the driver’s door, which does sit a little proud at the bottom.

inished in 'Carmen Red', the Jaguar was repainted from its original grey colour before Brian took ownership. The paintwork does have some areas of minor microblistering and would benefit from a polish. A few hours of elbow grease and you would be faced with a different-looking Jaguar.

The cream leather seats are thought to be the originals and do have some patina to them. The leather has split and cracked, but the seats are totally usable and remain comfortable.

The black carpets do show some signs of age, just like the seats, but again, if you wanted to replace these, they are available from a number of Jaguar specialists.

The car appears to sit as it should, and, like the engine, there were no issues reported before it went into storage. However, as with any recommissioning project, we would recommend an experienced mechanic take a look before it is driven.

The brakes will also need to be overhauled by a qualified mechanic.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
