Reg Number: 84 GDA
Chassis Number: 166553DN
Engine Number: KJ37348
Cc: 3442
Body Colour: Cream
Trim Colour: Red
MOT ExpiryDate: April 2013
This nicely-presented MKII 3.4 features manual/overdrive transmission and is finished in the classic combination of Old English White with Red leather upholstery. It has had just four owners to date, the third one of which retained the Jaguar from 1985 to 2003. The saloon has reportedly been well maintained over the years, with supporting invoices dating back to 1987. '84 GDA' has evidently never required a full restoration and is understood to remain remarkably original apart from such desirable upgrades as: a stainless steel exhaust system, Moto-Lita steering wheel, Kenlowe fan, Ace wheel rim embellishers, battery condition meter, hazard warning lights and Coombs-style louvred bonnet (the original engine cover comes with the car). The MKII is offered for sale with a tool box, full file of documents and MOT valid into April 2013. The indicated mileage is c.101,100.
PLEASE NOTE: The bonnet currently fitted to this vehicle is not a Coombs as stated in the catalogue description, but a non standard vented bonnet and the original is available by separate negotiation.

Car to return to auction 3/18

Auction description:
Registration Date 1964
Make & Model Jaguar MkII 3.4 Manual Overdrive
Colour Old English White
Registration Number 84 GDA
Chassis No. 166553DN
Engine size 3,442 cc
Engine No. KJ3734-8
Documents V5C; old style V5; MOT June 2018 with no advisories; 29 old MOTs; many invoices; handbook
Estimate £17,000 - £19,000
First registered in Wolverhampton in April 1964, this MkII has had just four owners from new, the vendor acquiring it 15 years ago from a gentleman who had owned it for 18 years (1985 - 2003). A document on file states that the engine was reconditioned at Jaguar's Browns Lane factory in the late 1970s when the bodywork was also tidied up and repainted plus much other work to "bring it up to concours standard".
It was then used only sparingly, some 29 old MOTs showing that it has only covered around 20,000 miles since 1981 with a documented speedo change in 1996. The lovely red leather interior appears largely original and nicely mellowed while the chrome and the Old English White paintwork still look very smart indeed, testament to the quality of the earlier restoration.
During his long ownership the vendor has looked after the car well with a large file of invoices to show regular upkeep. This has included fitting a stainless steel exhaust, Mota-Lita steering wheel, heated rear windscreen and Spax adjustable shock absorbers all round. Last year it had a brake overhaul, new condenser and battery and the carbs were balanced. The previous owner had fitted ACE wheel trims, hazard warning lights, Kenlowe fan, a battery condition gauge and a louvred bonnet with twin air vents but the original bonnet is also included if preferred.
Starting promptly and running nicely as we moved it around for these photos, it has an MOT until June 2018 with no advisories recorded. It also retains the original tool kit, handbook and transferable number plate, 84 GDA, which no doubt has a value of its own. A quantity of MkII spares and factory manuals amassed by the vendor over the years are also available by separate negotiation if desired.
Lot number 74 Sale Price £17,000

LocationWantage
Externally the car sits well, with no signs of panel damage and the doors open and close with ease, with no sagging noted. The offside rear wheel spat is slightly proud, but otherwise, the panel fit and shut lines are even.
As you'll see from the images and videos, the underside looks solid with just the front chassis legs showing some signs of age but appear to be solid too. There are a few areas that would benefit from underseal being applied again.
The engine bay and boot floor are pleasingly clean.
We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.
Paint
The paint has good even coverage and consistent lustre with no evidence of issues caused by outdoor elements on the body.
There is minimal surface paint damage, with the odd under-paint blister in places. We spotted a few small paint cracks and bubbling emerging on the front wings, a spot on the nearside front door and a blemish outside the boot well, but overall the car has very little in terms of distractions.
The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.
Glass and Trim
The glass and lighting are in good shape, with some mild perishing noted around the windscreen seals but the car appears to be leak-free.
The condition of the chrome is positive, with just a little light pitting observed on the bumpers.
The rest of the trim is in good shape, all correct and well-mounted.
Interior
Furnished in red leather, the cabin is a masterclass in style and comfort.
Seats and Carpets
The soft and comfy red leather seats appear original and display age-related wear, with of course the driver seats showing the most wear but all are free of rips.
The carpets are in good condition, with signs of age in places but above the expectations of a ~61-year-old car; all are damp-free.
Dashboard
The dashboard displays very well, with the high-quality walnut veneer in good condition, nothing more than minor wear noted, namely at the top of the left-hand side close to the windscreen.
The facia and main controls are in good order, with clean dials and switchgear. It has a couple of useful additions including a battery condition meter and hazard warning lights. Dan reassured us that all of the dashboard functions work to his knowledge.
The roof lining, door cards, and wooden capping are all in decent shape.
Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
The car is fitted with a wooden Moto-Lita steering wheel which is in excellent condition.
The gear lever, although twisted slightly off centre, is in order with the rest of the smartly presented, original cabin.
Mechanics
The excellent maintenance offers further confidence in the cars strong performance and spirited handling.
Engine and Gearbox
The cold start didn't expose any issues, with no hesitancy or unwanted noises. The exhaust was free of unwanted smoke and remained smoke-free while idling. The engine displays well, with plenty of evidence of regular maintenance, with decent hoses and ancillaries. Recent work includes a new coil, alternator and renewed electric cold start mechanism.
The manual gearbox operates with no issues. The first gear is without synchromesh, but all ratios were demonstrated to engage without issue. The car is fitted with overdrive, which Dan told us is fully operational. The clutch has recently been renewed.
Suspension and Brakes
The car glided smoothly along the roads, we noted how taught and composed it was around the corners. No creaks were heard during the test drive.
The brakes felt reassuring, with no pulling or unwanted noises.
