Auction description:
Lot number 77
Hammer value N/S
Description Jaguar MkII 2.4
Registration 578 FYL
Year 1963
Colour Metallic Maroon
Engine size 2,438 cc
Chassis No. 115583DN
Engine No. BH9803-4
First registered in June 1963, this Jaguar was supplied new by Rothwell & Milbourne, the Jaguar agents in Malvern, to John Hunt of Court Road, Malvern. He kept the car until 1969 when it was briefly acquired by DW Prodger Contractors of Worcester before passing to TF Dovey of Kempsey (a future Mayor of Worcester) some months later. He kept the car for 30 years before selling it to Diane Davies of Malvern in 1999, where it was to remain until earlier this year.
The car has covered less than 61,000 miles from new and comes with an extensive service history showing continuous careful maintenance. This includes a Rothwell & Milbourne stamped up service book from new until 1969 (at 34,295 miles); virtually all its old tax discs; many bills for sundry service items from new to date including a new clutch in 1984 and a respray in the original colour in 2002; plus all old MOTs back to 1999 (at 56,598 miles).
Last serviced by Simon Hemsley of Malvern less than 3,000 miles ago, the car has also recently been treated to a set of four new tyres. Said to be in very good condition throughout, the car has exceptionally straight bodywork with excellent panel gaps and is said to be very sound underneath. On our lengthy test drive after taking these pictures it certainly performed very well with an admirably rattle-free structure, excellent ride, steering and brakes and good performance from the engine and overdrive gearbox.
Still fitted with its original radio and tool-kit, it also comes with the original owner's handbook, a copy of the original buff log book and the aforementioned service history. Altogether a lovely low mileage car with a known history from new that has always lived in the local area.
