On eBay, December 2006. Ad reads:

"It’s Christmas time and what better to get for yourself than a 1967 Jaguar 420. Who are we kidding……it is better to give AND receive! I’ve had this beauty for four years but I have to let her go. I just don’t have the space to keep a project around. The car is a lot of fun and gets a lot of heads turning. I even drove it in a parade! Condition of the 420. The frame is straight and true. The body is good, not great. There is a little cancer around the front wheels and the picture below illustrates it. This is by far the worst spot. The paint is good, not great. The chrome IS in great condition. No dings or dents in the chrome anywhere. The suspension is in really good shape. I had the exhaust system overhauled and I removed both resonators but left both standard mufflers. There is no appreciable engine noise so I’m not really sure why Jaguar used the resonators anyway. Both brakes had master cylinder work and I bled both front and rear lines and put a new filter in. They work well. I replaced both electric fuel pumps as well. The interior is in good shape as well and is all original. The headliner needs help but they are cheap. The wood is all in really good shape. The leather is 40 years old and in decent condition but for a small hole in the driver’s seat. All window seals are good. The car is missing the driver’s side mirror, but they are easy to find online. OK here is the miracle…….it doesn’t leak oil!!!! It does have notorious Jaguar low oil pressure however. It also has notorious Jaguar temp issues but never seems to get too, too hot. Oh, I also had seatbelts installed in the back seat. One other note: The Jaguar 420 did NOT come with a hood emblem. If you see a 420 with a cat on the hood, it was put there after the factory. "

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?:
