Auction description:
1969 Jaguar 420G
Lot 329
Registration Number: CBY 455G
Chassis Number: 91D55946B

Manufactured in 1969 this particular 420G is finished in blue and has undergone a full restoration will bills in excess of £30,000. Documents and invoices show the restoration work was carried out by various marque specialists. Also supplied is a V5 document and old MoT certificates. As one would expect, the car is now described as being in excellent condition throughout and one would be hard pushed to find a better example of this usable iconic 60s saloon.

Estimate: £12000 - £14000

Car returns to auction 3/12
www.bonhams.com/eur/auction/20140/lot/328/

Auction description:
Sale 20140 - Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia, 3 Mar 2012
Oxford
Lot No: 328
1969 Jaguar 420G Saloon
Registration no. CBY 455G
Chassis no. G1D55946BW
Engine no. 7D58737-8
Estimate: £5,000 - 7,000, € 6,000 - 8,400

A marque specialist was commissioned to find a top quality 420G by this car's immediately preceding owner, who proceeded to use it regularly for chauffeur-driven trips between business meetings. Previously registered 'PEL 143G', the Jaguar was well maintained during this period, as evidenced by numerous bills on file issued by specialists Axtell Engineering. In the current ownership since 2002, the car has been maintained by Hillier Hill and was used extensively until August 2011 when the automatic gearbox failed, rendering it undriveable (though reverse still operates). Apart from the transmission, which needs to be overhauled, the car is described as in generally very good condition, with good original interior. Accompanying documentation consists of a quantity of service invoices, expired MoT certificate (August 2011) and Swansea V5C registration document.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
