Car to return to auction 7/14
www.coys.co.uk/auction.php

Auction description:
Lot 341 - 1961 Jaguar "Zenith" ( Mk10) Pre Production model
Estimate: No Reserve
Registration Number: 7868 RW
Chassis Number: 300044BW

This particular car, manufactured in 1961 and was first registered in January 1962 to Sir William Lyons, (4 September 1901 - 8 February 1985), known as "Mr. Jaguar", was with fellow motorcycle enthusiast William Walmsley, the co-founder in 1922 of the Swallow Sidecar Company, which became Jaguar Cars Limited after the Second World War. ( Mr Jaguar as he is known) and is thought to be one of the earliest Mk10 models in existence. The engine is the 3.8 litre, which was used in the all conquering XK150S and subsequently also the " Flat Floor" E Type which is so collectable today.

The interior has certain additions which are thought to have been personally requested by Sir William as this was his own personal car. Although the paintwork and interior will need refurbishment, the engine does run and presents itself as an interesting project for the enthusiast. An important car historically having been delivered new to Sir William, this surely must be a great opportunity. Not to be missed.

Car to return to auction 9/16

Auction description:
The Salon Privé Sale 2016 » Lot List » 1961 Jaguar Mark 10 3.8 litre - Ex Sir William Lyons
1961 Jaguar Mark 10 3.8 litre - Ex Sir William Lyons
Lot No.: 233
Registration: 7868 RW
Chassis Number: 300044 BW
Engine Number: ZA 1065-8
Number of cylinders: 6
CC: 3,781
Year of Manufacture: 1961
Estimate (£): 75,000 - 100,000

Sir William Lyons, popularly known as 'Mr. Jaguar', founded the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922 in partnership with William Walmsley. The Swallow Sidecar Company became Jaguar Cars Ltd after the second world war ended and went on to outstanding success as a prestige British manufacturer of executive saloons and sports cars across the World.

This particular car was one of the very first "Zenith" cars produced in December 1961 specifically for Sir William Lyons to use as his daily driver. It was finished to his own personal specification and differed from production cars in a number of small ways including having electric windows in the rear (in addition to the front) and individual 'vanity mirrors' for himself and Lady Lyons. The car was delivered to him in January 1962 and was to be his personal transport for the next three years being used on all his official Jaguar public functions including visits to his beloved Jaguar Racing Team providing moral support at important meetings.

Today, this dynamic Jaguar is finished in its original colour of Opalescent Dark Green with a Beige leather interior and still bears its original Coventry number plate - 7868 RW. It is fresh from a professional comprehensive two-year restoration to near Concours standard carried out by renowned Jaguar specialists "covering a full restoration of body, paint, chrome, trim - wood and leather, as well as a full engine and mechanical engineering overhaul". It presents and drives beautifully today, just as it did for Sir William in period. The freshly rebuilt 3.8 engine starts and runs as it should and the car still has the three qualities of " Grace, Space and Pace" that epitomised Jaguar saloons in the 1960s.

The Jaguar is now in possession of a fresh MOT, valid until July 2017, with no advisories.

This is a unique opportunity to own an important piece of Jaguar history and not to be missed. It has been photographed by our in-house photographer, Jonny Shears, outside of what was Sir William's house - Wappenbury Hall - where car and home have finally been reunited once more.

N.B Sincere thanks to Wappenbury Hall's current owner for his permission, kindness, and courtesy.

Car returns to auction 3/17
www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2017-03-04/cars/ref-11-1961-jaguar-mk-10.asp ...

Auction description:
March 4, 2017 auction.
Registration 7868 RW
Chassis Number 300044 BW
Engine Number ZA 1065-8
Odometer reading 71,357 miles
Estimate £60,000 - £70,000

Manufactured in December 1961, this Jaguar Mk. X was built specifically for and to the exact requirements of Sir William Lyons, the then Managing Director of Jaguar Cars and delivered to him in January 1962. He used the car on a regular basis for three years with Lady Lyons, often being chauffeur-driven to meetings and social events. With such a highly esteemed end user, this Jaguar was built to a very high standard with the unique features at the time of electric windows to the rear as well as the front, vanity mirrors fitted discreetly to the picnic tables and air conditioning- a rare feature at the time. This example was one of the very first 'Zenith' cars to be manufactured and is finished in the original colour combination of Opalescent Dark Green with a Beige leather interior and still bears its original Coventry number plate - 7868 RW. Having been professionally restored over a two year period, with receipts for tens of thousands on file from renown Jaguar specialists, including Jaguar Heritage and as such she presents in excellent condition. The rebuilt engine ran beautifully during our demonstration, with excellent oil pressure and no adverse noises. Bodily it is hard to imagine a better example than this and the evocative curves of such a large car are delightful with uniform panel gaps and an excellent paint finish. Open the door and you are welcomed to a magnificent interior with space, wood and leather in plentiful supply; a genuine luxury car of the period. It comes supplied with a heritage certificate, a V5C registration document, together with a current MoT test certificate and a history folder. It is rare to see a Jaguar Mk. 10 these days; to find one in this condition and with such historical value, having been used by Sir William Lyons himself, is virtually impossible. The painstaking restoration of what is a significant piece of motoring heritage, owned by Mr. Jaguar, has been recognised and featured in the February (issue 166) of Octane magazine as well as the marque specialist Jaguar World magazine (February issue).

*Sir William Lyons' company car from 1962 to 1965
*Matching chassis, engine, and registration numbers
*Numerous special features
*Known ownership history
*Professionally restored between 2015 and 2017

This particular Mark X was one of the very first cars produced. It left the Brown's Lane factory in December 1961 having been built specifically for the daily use of company founder, Sir William Lyons. Jaguar Cars had grown out of 'SS' (the Swallow Sidecar & Coachbuilding Company) which had been founded in Blackpool in 1922 by Lyons and his partner, William Walmsley. The company branched out into motor manufacture in 1926, its first major success being an attractive sports saloon on the Austin Seven chassis. Designed by Lyons, that car brought the Swallow name to the attention of the motoring public and paved the way for the stylish SS models of the 1930s. The latter established the enduring pattern for future Jaguars, combining sporting good looks with a better-than-average specification, and all at a bargain price.

Lyons' Mark X was finished to his own personal specification and differed from standard production models in numerous ways. It had the optional automatic transmission, while electric windows were fitted in the rear (in addition to the front) together with individual 'vanity mirrors' for him and Lady Lyons. Registered as '7868 RW' on 17th January 1962, the Mark X was used by Lyons for the next three years, carrying him - chauffeur driven, of course - to all his official functions. The accompanying Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate records that the car was finished in Opalescent Dark Green with beige leather interior, the same as it is today, and states that it was sold second-hand to Imperial Motors, Cheltenham on 30th March 1965. Its next owner kept the Jaguar, latterly off the road in a barn, until 2011 when the car passed via the third (albeit brief) ownership to the current vendor, who acquired it in 2014.

Some three years later, '7868 RW' is offered fresh from a comprehensive professional restoration to exemplary standard. The rebuild was carried out by marque specialists including Huddersfield-based Miles Classic and XJK in Newcastle-under-Lyme, while for the finishing touches and final approval the Mark X was despatched to Jaguar Heritage, returning to Brown's Lane for the first time in many years. The story of Lyons' Mark X was recounted in an article published in Octane magazine (April 2017 edition) and the car has also appeared in various Jaguar magazines.

As one would expect, this beautifully presented Mark X is reported to drive as well now as it did in Sir William's day, possessing all the 'Grace, Space and Pace' forever associated with Jaguar's peerless saloons. A possibly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own this important piece of Jaguar history, it comes with a V5C document and MoT to July 2018.
